  1. After reading Chapter 10 of the textbook answer the following:For each of the following scenarios, describe the type of conflict that is being represented by the particular scenario being described:
    (a) Hadley Primary Care Group in Johnson, Vermont has been in the community for 35 years. The senior partner in the group is a member of the hospital Medical Executive Committee. The 10-member primary care group is the major source of primary care in the community of 10 thousand people although there are a few other primary care providers in solo practice offices. A new hospital administrator was recently hired to assume responsibility for the organization. He announced to the physicians that he hired a physician search firm to recruit five family practitioners that would be employed by the hospital. He justified the decision by saying that increasingly hospitals were employing their own doctors and the community was experiencing a significant population growth with retirees. Dr. Wetzman from Hadley Primary Care expressed his dissatisfaction to no avail and said he would discuss it with his primary care partnership and if necessary bring it to the hospital Board of Trustees.
    (b) After reading of the new advances in virtual visits, the administrator of Stoughton Memorial Hospital proposes to his medical staff that it might be worthwhile to consider initiating a similar effort with a reintermediation strategy. The administrator says she has contacted TelaDoc, company that has partnered with several other hospitals to provide 24/7 virtual visit services. The CEO then shows several similar-sized hospitals’ web pages where the hospitals’ virtual visits offering using TelDoc are promoted. At this point the medical staff meeting is in an uproar. Several doctors say that they will lose business or else will lose referrals.
    (c) Austin Orthopedics is one of the largest orthopedic groups in Southwestern Oklahoma. After many years of admitting to Tulsa General Hospital, the physician group decide that it might just be better for them in terms of operating room efficiency and their own patient satisfaction if they take a major leap in investment and market positioning to build their own free-standing outpatient surgical suites. In recent years, the vast majority of their own surgeries have required few overnight stays in a hospital. The hospital, upon learning of these plans, decides that it might be best for them to go to the AAOS, hold an internal meeting of orthopedic surgeons, and mount an aggressive campaign to recruit their own orthopedic surgeons into the community.

Christian faith-based organizations (FBOs) are an essential piece of helping outside resources and skills in collaborating with local churches. However, local churches have different views, compassion. And only look to (FBOs) to help members who have religious affiliations, and denomination which is some of the challenges (FBOs) meet when trying to support local churches. Moreover, it is important for local churches to build partnerships as it creates resources and networks to build Christ-center church community relationships (Ireland, 2017).

In addition, partnerships multiply a church’s influence as other organizations can expand assistance needed allowing more to be done collaborating together instead of one church trying to complete a task on its own. Challenges of local churches or other (FBOs) is that values and commitments tend to become conflicts and barriers to faith and health collaborations become complex due to distrust of health agencies, diversity within faith communities, and different goals, agendas, and ideas (Ireland, 2017).

Describe two criteria you think are necessary for healthy and effective partnerships that take into consideration the challenges you mentioned.

According to the 7 standards of excellence, empowering partnerships is a great way to establish well-built and ongoing relationships. In addition, both partners provide mutual trust and accountability, implement plans, and decisions that primarily focus on those who are in need (“7 standards of excellence,” 2020). Also, the use of honesty, proper risk management, and valued program delivery and support planning all help build healthy and effective partnerships. Furthermore, transparency is very important in a partnership as this allows clear direction, expectations, and honesty to be communicated to build a trusting, successful partnership.

Share an example of how you have applied these criteria in your life.

I collaborate with many business partners on the job and in order to keep good working relationships, I make sure that I work with integrity and transparency to ensure information is disseminated freely between teams. In addition, I make being transparent the main concern as it makes working with other partners easier and helps avoid hostile, and biased work environments. Moreover, we empower each other by setting goals and planning out projects that we all think will benefit the outcome and create a business process with direction. This allows all parties to have input in the plans and build strong working relationships with our partners.

A servant leadership

A servant leadership focuses on sharing the power of authority. It focuses more on serving by building a partnership through trust and sustainability, so that the leaders can best use all resources at hand to better serve their community. For example. Servant leaders build trust and sustainable partnership by being willing to do the same work they are asking their team members to do, along with collaborating with those team members to complete the work and showing compassion and understanding for everyone. Therefore, it is important for servant leaders to have these trust and sustainable partnerships so that they can receive help in achieving an effective goal to better serve others and help improve the lives of others.

Nelson Mandela

An example of someone who exhibits servant leadership skills in building a cross-cultural partnership is Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was the President of South Africa (1994-1999) and was very vocal and proactive in his fight against apartheid and was also the first black individual to become head of state in South Africa. His entire demeanor and goal were focused on serving his people and his actions and goals were able to transcend the country’s borders. His efforts were successful because of his influential presence, his determination, humility, patience, endurance. Charisma, and willingness to be one with the people instead of the traditional leaders who separate themselves from their people (History, 2019).

A true partnership involves risk shared by all parties.

I agree with the statement that a true partnership involves risk shared by all parties. This is because once you enter into an agreed partnership, you will be reaping all the benefits from the outcome, this means you will also reap all the risk from the outcome. Furthermore, a partnership is a collaborative relationship built on trust and liability, where everyone is working together on a specific outcome, therefore, sharing the load of the project or event.

Servant leadership is very beneficial as it builds nurturing environments where individuals can feel valued and respected (Spencer,2020). In addition, it can help establish well-built work relationships, and harness self-initiatives to keep employees motivated and engaged. Holistic leadership such as servant leadership methods that involve groups in ethical, emotional, rational, and spiritual components are inspired to succeed into what they are capable of becoming (Eva et al., 2019).

Moreover, servant leadership puts its focus on the individuals, groups, and organizations he/she works with to ensure that growth and development are met through serving the needs of others, promoting team problem solving, personalized development, and incentives by providing self-governance and resources. Ethics and integrity are highly important. With that being said, the ability to serve successfully and build trust and transparency is reliant on moral leadership, and servant leadership inspires others and works industriously to make society great (Tanno & Banner, 2018). Furthermore, servant leadership mirror the word of god and the application of theological truths of grace, and mercy.

Harold MacDowell, CEO of TD industries is someone who exhibits servant leadership skills. He sets a culture that implements key elements in sustaining employees and the environment in which they work by valuing, respecting, and appreciating their efforts (Schwantes, 2017). Moreover, these efforts are important, and culture is taken very seriously with leaders at every level ensuring core values are carried out at all times by building and maintaining trusting relationships, passionately protecting the safety of all partners, leading with a servant’s heart, pursue excellence, and celebrate the power of individual differences (Schwantes, 2017). His efforts are successful as he put individuals ahead of profit and hone in on sustainable approaches that are mutually important for business and culture.

A true partnership involves risk shared by all parties.

A successful partnership requires risk sharing and this is why I agree with the following statement. Risk is a part of investing and once a partnership is put into an agreement and formed, all parties reap the benefits and losses of investments equally. Moreover, partnerships benefit and help each other resolve and manage risk successfully, implement efficient risk management techniques and commit to sharing all risk so that the end result of a project can be a successful outcome instead of one company bearing the full risk (Willemsen & D’Arc, 2019).
