Each population has some specific health issues that can require health promotion programs. American Indian population attracts attention in this context because of the specific state of affairs. Although this population has several main health issues for which health promotion can be required. All these issues can be solved by following the directions that cause a generally healthy lifestyle.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (n.d.), the main issues in the American Indian population is diabetes, obesity, and tobacco use. Even though those are three different issues, the health promotion for solving them is quite similar. Such promotions have to be generally focused on a healthy lifestyle. This means healthy nutrition – less fat and sweet food and more healthy food and balanced nutrition.

The next item is physical activity – starting with such common advice as more walking and ending with making sport a healthy habit. This advice is also helpful for coping with tobacco use. However, sport is helpful in decreasing the level of stress, and therefore, it can be useful to break the smoking habit. Therefore, one can see that advice directed on causing a healthy lifestyle is helpful for coping with health issues, widespread in the American Indian population.

This way, one can see that even though the American Indian population has several main health issues that can require healthcare promotion programs, all these issues can be solved by following the directions that cause a generally healthy lifestyle. The issues of diabetes, obesity, and tobacco can be solved with healthy nutrition and physical activity.

What are the reasons for quality and research initiatives? As per Tappen (2015) states. There is not much imagination required to understand the reason for these research initiatives. Patient safety and improvement can lend itself to many concepts. Drug improvement, practice initiatives, mitigation of practice errors, and the list continues. Two immediate concepts that come to mind are safety as well as infection control. In conducting these studies. We must remember that we are responsible for safeguarding the well-being of our patients in the study.

The formulation of a design is not always easy. There are considerations that must be accounted for you. As per Tappen (2015), one issue is design formulation where one must look at defining the content. Looking for an occurrence in existing records. The sequence of events, population comparison, baseline adherence rates, complex interventions, encompassing a complex system transformation. And complex data analysis. To add the list of requirements it is imperative to consider ethical considerations. Page 496 of your text highlights the guidelines for publishing safety and quality study results.

Chapter 27: Developing a program of research

Tappen (2015) states that this concept is a series of studies that are aimed at filling a knowledge gap in research. This is an area where there are insufficient studies to address an issue encountered. Additionally, this could also be viewed as purposeful construction of new knowledge to address a problem where scientific knowledge is lacking. One example is when a new disease surface. There is value in construction of new research. The methodology for its implementation involves a process. If you refer to page 501 of your course text. This week we are going to expand our horizons even further. We have our final reflection assignment. I would like for everyone to incorporate their knowledge from this course & reflect on a theory or concept that you could develop in advance nursing.

 

Discussions and Reading Reflections:

· Participation in online discussion is an expectation of students enrolled. Giving this is an online class, discussions allow for class participation and interactions. A discussion week is Sunday to Saturday (11:59 pm EST).

· On specific weeks, there are questions or topics to be discussed. You are to post your initial post and respond to all professors posted questions. Initial posts must be made no later than Wednesdays at 11:59 pm. You will also be required to respond to at least two of your peers during the week. Failure to do so will cause a point’s deduction. You must also post at least four days per week. All posts cannot be posted on the same day.

· The initial post will be regarding the week and will be at least 250 words. Provide appropriate references and utilize APA style. Peer posts will be at least 150 words, otherwise will be counted as 0, all subsequent post must be in APA format and properly referenced. There will be 8 discussion posts worth 1 point each. R.H. is a 74-year-old black woman, who presents to the family practice clinic for a scheduled appointment. She complains of feeling bloated and constipated for the past month, some-times going an entire week with only one bowel movement. Until this episode, she has been very regular all of her life, having a bowel movement every day or every other day. She reports straining most of the time and it often takes her 10 minutes at a minimum to initiate a bowel movement. Stools have been extremely hard. She denies pain during straining. A recent colonoscopy was negative for tumors or other lesions. She has not yet taken any medications to provide relief for her constipation.

Furthermore, she reports frequent heartburn (3–4 times each week), most often occur-ring soon after retiring to bed. She uses three pillows to keep herself in a more upright position during sleep. On a friend’s advice, she purchased a package of over-the-counter aluminum hydroxide tablets to help relieve the heartburn. She has had some improvement since she began taking the medicine. She reports using naproxen as needed for arthritic pain her hands and knees. She states that her hands and knees are extremely stiff when she rises in the morning. Because her arthritis has been getting worse, she has stopped taking her daily walks and now gets very little exercise.

Endocrine Function:
C.B. is a significantly overweight, 48-year-old woman from the Winnebago Indian tribe who had high blood sugar and cholesterol levels three years ago but did not follow up with a clinical diagnostic work-up. She had participated in the state’s annual health screening program and noticed that her fasting blood sugar was 141 and her cholesterol was 225. However, she felt “perfectly fine at the time” and could not afford any more medications. Except for a number of “female infections,” she has felt fine until recently.

Today, she presents to the Indian Hospital general practitioner complaining that her left foot has been weak and numb for nearly three weeks and that the foot is difficult to flex. She denies any other weakness or numbness at this time. However, she reports that she has been very thirsty lately and gets up more often at night to urinate. She has attributed these symptoms to the extremely warm weather and drinking more water to keep hydrated. She has gained a total of 65 pounds since her last pregnancy 14 years ago, 15 pounds in the last 6 months alone.

Fall rates in acute-care hospitals have been measured between 2.2 and 7 falls per 1,000 admissions. Injuries occur in approximately 30% of falls, and severe injuries occur in 4% to 6% of falls. Patient falls increase the cost of patient care. It was found that patients who fell and were injured as a result of a fall had $4,233 higher charges and a length of stay (LOS) of 12.3 days.
