Alcohol Concentration Levels for Driving and Other Recommendations

In January 2018, the prestigious National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) released a report with several recommendations for addressing alcohol abuse in this country (National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, 2018). One of these recommendations is that the current standard for legal driving impairment in the states be lowered from 0.08 to 0.05 percent blood alcohol concentration (BAC). There are other recommendations including significantly increasing alcohol taxes, and providing effective treatment (National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, 2018).
