Commemorative speaking :

Commemorative speaking :

is a form of special occasion speaking, and gives speakers experience in one of our most commonly used speech. A manuscript (essay) format is used instead of an outline because the intention is not to be “informative” or “factual”, but to use stylistic delivery skills that affect the audience more thoughtfully and emotionally. Manuscripts are used for speakers who give speeches at weddings, funerals, graduations, anniversaries, and breaking-ground ceremonies, to name a few. You still want to speak extemporaneously, but a manuscript is used because you don’t want to be searching for words when delivering a speech with emotion.

Time: 3-4 minutes

Prepare and present a 3-4 minute speech that honors or pays tribute to a person, concept, organization or institution. This speech is given from a manuscript so there is no reason for going over/under time.

Visual Aids:

No visual aid requirement for this speech, but you may use them if you choose to.

Manuscript:

You will bring two manuscripts:

  • one you will use during your speech, (marked up with delivery notes, larger font size, color coding, etc.)
  • one is the final draft I will use to follow you as you speak. This needs to be double spaced and proofread to avoid spelling, typographical or grammatical errors.
