In your first week and throughout this course, you will encounter medical terminology. Medical terminology helps professionals to describe the human body and its components, medical conditions, and functions in a science-based manner. Chapter 1 of your text nicely defines kinesiology, which, broadly described, is the study of movement. Chapter 1 forms a basis for this discussion and the content throughout the course.
After studying Chapter 1: Basic Information, Chapter 21: Posture, and Chapter 22: Gait, select one common postural deviation and one atypical gait. Next, slip into the shoes of a healthcare practitioner, and address the points below as if you were speaking with your patient who is experiencing the selected deviations.
- Choose a name for your patient, and address him or her directly, using applicable medical terminology. Include the following:
- Explain the importance of having good posture.
- Describe the previously selected postural deviation, and name one possible cause for this deviation.
- Discuss the previously selected atypical gait and a general cause for this abnormality.
Reference your textbook, and include at least one additional scholarly or credible source to support your research and findings (see the Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table for assistance). All sources must be referenced and cited according to APA Style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (see Introduction to APA for assistance). Your initial post must be at least 250 words.
Guided Response: Respond to at least two peers. Compare and contrast your patient’s posture and gait to that of your peers’ posts. Each peer response must be at least 100 words.
