Mission statements describe the direction and purpose of an organization by providing clear knowledge and understanding of the core values, vision, and mission that will motivate and inspire the future of a company. Key components of a mission statement include the purpose, which includes clarity on why a business exists, capability provides details on what makes the business shine, which provides strengths and advantages on what makes a business different, Inspirational functions where the mission statement should show stimulating and motivating factors to define competencies, clarity which is concise and straight to the point but not too long or short where readers find the mission statement cumbersome and legacy which gives information on where the company foresees itself in the future (Weber, 2016).

Local organization public health program, and describe their mission statement and key components necessary for a successful mission statement are represented

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Breastfeeding Women, Infants, and Children know as the (WIC) program protects the well-being of women, infants, and children living in low-income area up to the age of 5 by providing milk, baby formula, food, supplement diets, and additional healthy nutrients to promote positive health care (“About WIC-WIC’s Mission, ”n.d.). Yes, I feel the key components are represented successfully for a mission statement as the purpose is to help low-income women by providing resources to help them get the free formula and food for their children. The message is clear and concise and breaks down who is eligible for this program and how long one can be on it. It is inspirational because it provides a way for pregnant, breastfeeding/non-breastfeeding women to feed their infants and children and the program is successful being that it has been around since 1975.

Discuss how this mission statement influences the field of public health

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) influences the field of public health because it is free to families and provides formula, cheese, fruit, vegetables, and other foods to help strengthen families. The (WIC) is a part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), with 15 nutrition assistance programs that provide aid to low-income families and has been operating successfully for over 40 years and have become the nation’s most important public health nutrition programs (Kimura et at., 2015). The (WIC) program not only provide food for families but also offer nutrition education, breastfeeding advertising to promote positive existence in health for women, infant, and children. This program is available to all families and it is encouraged that health professionals and physicians promote the (WIC) program and provide insight into this program to those patients in their care.
