Resolving Value Conflicts In Ethical Practice

Explore The Challenges In Resolving Value Conflicts In Ethical Practice

Even when you do not declare your values publicly, your lifestyles, verbal, and nonverbal communications usually indicate the values you hold. Assume you have been asked to present at the next regional Social Work conference about these issues. You have decided to discuss the challenges of working with a diverse client base and managing value conflicts.

Prepare a narrated PowerPoint presentation for your conference session. Begin by describing a situation with a client system in which the values of a client, your values, and a primary social work value were in opposition or significant conflict. You may use a hypothetical situation if you have yet to experience this in the field. For example, a lesbian social worker is attempting to place an adolescent in foster care with a religiously conservative family. The adolescent wants to remain in temporary placement with a teacher who is openly gay, but the agency prohibits placements with single parents and sexual minority families. The social worker has not professionally disclosed her sexual orientation. How would these issues be resolved in an ethical decision-making process?

Construct your own example and include the following in your presentation:

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists and should cite material appropriately. Add audio to each slide using the Media section of the Insert tab in the top menu bar for each slide.

Instructions

Support your presentation with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)

Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide

Ethics Violations

Analyze Regulations To Address Ethics Violations

Construct a case demonstrating the ethical principle of dual relationships between a social worker in your area of practice or interest and a client or client system. Provide a complete description of a situation where dual relationships are evident, and then examine the issues associated with boundary violations and possible outcomes if the dual relationship continues, and then include the potential risks for both the social worker and the client. Research and cite the jurisdictional regulation from the social work board in your jurisdiction, and then describe the potential penalties and sanctions that could be imposed for the licensed social worker. Describe the disciplinary process as outlined from the social work board.

Note

Points will be assigned for completeness of the discussion and correct ethical and legal citations, in addition to a clear understanding of the issues presented.

Instructions

Support your assignment with at least three scholarly/governmental resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.

Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages

Explore Practice Regulations

Explore Practice Regulations

For your assignment, this week, assume you have already graduated and are working in the field of social work at the MSW level. You are employed at a non-profit mental health clinic as a clinical manager. You have been asked to prepare a PowerPoint presentation regarding your state’s (or providence’s) social work and mental health practice laws and regulations. This presentation will be shown to all newly hired social workers.

In your presentation, include the following (based on the state in which you live or intend to practice):

Provide a brief explanation of what external factors (historical, social, cultural, economic, organizational, environmental, and/or global) led to the creation of licensing laws and the regulation of professional practice.

  • Explain how a mental health practice and/or a social work practice is defined according to your state’s laws or regulations.
  • Provide the web address where employees can learn about social work licensure and/or certification in this state.
  • Examine the mandatory reporting laws in your state.
  • Explain the regulations regarding involuntary commitment.
  • Determine if your state follows Duty to Warn or Duty to Protect.

Note

Provide examples to support your findings.

Length: 100-150 words for each slide

wage rates

Importance of increasing wage rates for employees

  •  With the growing importance of increasing wage rates for employees, many health care organizations are implementing technology such as self-help kiosks to reduce staffing.
  • Describe both an advantage and a disadvantage to this practice and discuss how patients may perceive reductions in dedicated staffing.

The supporting resources can be the textbook as well as required or recommended resources provided in this course, the University of Arizona Global Campus Library, or credible websites.

The  Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources  (Links to an external site.)  table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. Learning Games

Types Of Learning Games

The next step in backward design is to determine how the students’ attainment of the learning goals will be measured. Assessments must be incorporated at multiple points throughout a unit plan and must include more than paper and pencil tests. One method of formative assessment is learning games.

Games are an interactive and engaging way for students to express their understanding of content in an alternative manner. Teachers often get a more authentic view of students’ level of comprehension, because of the higher level of engagement.

Use the information from your humanities unit plan to create an 8 slide digital presentation about formative assessment games that could be shared with colleagues in your content area.

Include the following:

Instructions

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

  • A high quality hypothetical business ethics issue in a veterinary practice (either one you’ve seen in books or film, or one you create)

Gathering data

Gathering data

Gathering data is the next step in the research process. For some researchers, that includes doing surveys and/or interviews. For others it means doing secondary analysis, which simply means looking at what other researchers have done on the topic. Other methods of gathering data include reviewing websites and social media, participant observation, etc. You can read about the full spectrum of social science data gathering in Social Science Research: Principles, Methods, and Practices. (Links to an external site.)

Note

Explore the CSU Global Writing Center’s page on Lit Reviews (Links to an external site.) for this assignment and then cover the following:

For the purposes of this assignment, you’ll use the topic for your Portfolio, the topic from CT 1, or a new topic (it’s up to you) to create a Literature Review based on data you’ve gathered doing secondary analysis:

  • Restate your topic (or state your new topic) clearly and succinctly.
  • Explain why your topic is important to Human Services
  • Choose only three pieces of data to explore (this is a short paper and you won’t have the room to cover much more).
