Discussion: Identifying Resources

All change involves a negotiation of resources.
Think of a significant change you have made in your personal or professional life, such as your decision to enroll in this graduate program. Did you consider what resources would be needed in order to succeed with this planned change? If so, how did you evaluate the fiscal and time commitments you would need to make? How did you assess your readiness to take on the challenges that might lie ahead? What activities or milestones functioned as dependencies in your plan? What other obligations, plans, or aspirations did you deprioritize or delay to make available the necessary resources? Did you discover—after you were already invested in this change—that you needed more or different resources to continue on?

As you propose and evaluate changes with an organizational or systems-level impact, it is especially important to consider what resources may be required and what trade-offs may be needed to bring the change to fruition and achieve sustainability.

Research Critiques and PICOT Statement Final Draft

Prepare this assignment as a 1,500-1,750 word paper using the instructor feedback from the previous course assignments and the guidelines below.

PICOT Question

Revise the PICOT question you wrote in the Topic 1 assignment using the feedback you received from your instructor.

The final PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

Research Critiques

In the Topic 2 and Topic 3 assignments, you completed a qualitative and quantitative research critique on two articles for each type of study (4 articles total). Use the feedback you received from your instructor on these assignments to finalize the critical analysis of each study by making appropriate revisions.

The completed analysis should connect to your identified practice problem of interest that is the basis for your PICOT question.

Refer to “Research Critiques and PICOT Guidelines – Final Draft.” Questions under each heading should be addressed as a narrative in the structure of a formal paper.

Using a recent media article on a health care system issue that you identified.

Students will have to comment on their media posts and the article. Students should engage in and evidence-based discussion on the topic.

You may include links to articles or websites that support your discussion of the article.

The purpose of this assignment is to help you effectively communicate one current issue in the area of public health. Select one current issue in public health and write a paper about that area of public health. See The Nation’s Health website for current public health issues to choose from if you need some ideas. You do not have to limit your choice to these and are able to select any current event topic you are interested in.

The total assignment should include a minimum of 4 pages of writing. Include in your paper the following: a discussion about the current issue, why the issue is important to public health, and what can be done to improve the issue in the future.

Final Project (60 pts total: 40 pts for Final Paper, 4 pages minimum, and 20 pts for Final Presentation): The purpose of this assignment is to help you effectively communicate (both orally and in writing) about a current issue in public health. It is a research project so it should NOT be written in first person, but rather objectively. After selecting one current important public health issue, you will write a research paper (minimum 4 pages) and do a class presentation (approximately 5-7 minutes) about that issue. Both the paper and presentation should include the following:

• Discuss/describe the issue in detail, including epidemiological facts.
• Why is the issue important to public health today?
• What can be/has been done to improve the issue, including public health prevention strategies?
• NOTE: As a research paper, this assignment should be thoroughly referenced, with a minimum of 5 references.

Performance Improvement programs and effective project management require an understanding of the four phases of the project life-cycle: initiation, planning, execution/implementation, and closure. It is important to have each phase of the project mapped on a timeline and to be sure the project team has the appropriate members with the right skills to ensure a successful program. Using a case study from the text, students will demonstrate their ability to review and evaluate a performance improvement program by arranging the information provided into a timeline and devising a team with the appropriate skills and knowledge to work the plan.

Instructions

• Read Chapter 18 in the text, and focus your assignment on the Case Study on pages 461-462.
• Answer the following questions based on the case study:
  • Draft a timeline showing the major phases of the project cycle (see Figure 18.1) and the key tasks for each phase.
  • Develop a team of up to seven representatives from different departments to serve on a multidisciplinary project team. Construct a list of the types of individuals you would want to serve on this project team.
  • What departmental areas of the healthcare organization should be represented on the team?
  • What specific skills, knowledge, and expertise should team members possess?
• Your submission should include your timeline (use the Gantt chart in Figure 18.3 as a guide), as well as a minimum of 2 additional pages that answers questions 2, 3 and 4.
• Please prepare the paper in APA style, including cover and reference pages, with an introduction and conclusion.
• Your references should include the textbook and at least two other outside resources.
