Urinary Tract Infections

please use articles published within the last 5 years

Men and women both can experience urologic concerns with aging. This week’s presentations and readings covered urologic concerns and common problems. Utilize the national guidelines and scholarly references to develop your responses.

Urinary Tract Infections

  • What risk factors contribute to the development of a UTI in men versus women?
  • In which sex is a UTI more concerning and why?
  • It is important to know when to treat a UTI and when not to treat. Is there a particular situation where you would not treat a UTI?

BPH

As a provider it is essential for you to know to interpret DRE findings and what your next step should be. The American Urology Association has specific recommendations based on age. Be sure you know these because the guidelines will guide your patient counseling and treatment plan.

  • What does the AUA state about drawing PSA levels?
  • If you do decide to draw a level what specific counseling should you include in your education today?

Ethical Decision Making & Medical Malpractice

HCM 345 – Mod 4 – Please select either one, do not do both. Read the details and Rubric.

OPTION #1: MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
Medical malpractice laws vary from state to state. Research the medical malpractice laws in the state you live in or the state where you hope to work as a healthcare provider. Imagine that you are already working in the healthcare field. It is your responsibility to develop a training for new medical providers to complete before they are allowed to treat patients. The training will be computer generated and you are the voice over. Prepare a power point presentation that briefly covers the laws of medical malpractice in your state.

Identify and provide a thorough analysis of the key aspects of the law that medical providers need to be aware. Also include several strategies and rationales to prevent or avoid a medical malpractice lawsuit.

Your presentation should meet the following requirements:

Be well-organized, using APA level headings to separate your topics. (For more information on APA headings, see the Purdue OWL page on APA headings and structures (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..)
Consist of 5-6 slides including the title and reference page.
Include a voice over for each power point slide. This should include a narration of the content included on each slide. Since you are using voice over, your slides do not necessarily need to contain words but instead can be filled with graphs, charts, infographics, etc. For technical support on adding voice over to your PowerPoint use this link: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/record-a-slide-show-with-narration-and-slide-timings-0b9502c6-5f6c-40ae-b1e7-e47d8741161c (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
Support your assignment with at least 2-4 scholarly, legislative, or court references (of which the textbook may be one). Use current sources, not older than 5 years. The CSU-Global Library is good place to find these references.

Medical Office Database ERD System Design And Business Rules

A small medical office needs a database system designed. The design starts with a visualized conceptualization carried by an entity-relationship diagram (ERD). Create this ERD by completing the following steps:

  1. Identify all involved in the database system so your ERD accurately “captures” the entire process, actors, and relationships (e.g., staff, patients, suppliers, carriers, etc.).
  2. Identify and list entities and attributes for each entity.
  3. Make sure you designate an attribute to serve as a primary key per each entity. Explain why that attribute “deserves” to be designated a primary key.
  4. Briefly define business rules. (Example: One patient can’t schedule more than one appointment at a time.)

It is important that you have a clear understanding of key concepts such as entity, attribute, primary key, foreign key, referential integrity, relationships, ERD, etc., before starting to work on the assignment.
Example:
Entity – Nurse
Attributes: Employee ID (Primary Key), Name, Address, DOB, SSN, License Number.

The ERD should be created using one of the following options:

  1. Draw using a free drawing tool available online, such as SmartDraw (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. or Lucid Chart (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
  2. Draw using software you already own, such as Visio (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. or Argo UML (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
  3. Draw by hand and take a snapshot with a camera.

Operations Planning for Group Medical Practice

Imagine that a group of physicians who are planning to open a single-specialty group practice has hired you as a consultant. Your job is to advise the physicians in creating a business plan that includes management strategies that will help ensure their success. The physicians have stipulated that the plan must promote medical excellence and limit their exposure to risks associated with the practice of medicine and the operational functions of the practice. In addition, they are aware that a public health emergency or natural disaster could have had a significant impact on their practice, and want to include a strategy for emergency preparedness as part of their plan so that they will be able to manage their patients and help serve the community as needed.

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

  1. Compare and contrast the two (2) main levels (i.e., internal comparison and external comparison) of financial benchmarking. Next, analyze the strategic purpose of each level of benchmarking and specify the overall importance of benchmarking as a financial planning tool for a medical practice.
  2. Recommend a Health Information Technology (HIT) system that includes an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for the new practice to implement. Support your recommendation by determining three (3) main benefits of having this type of system for the practice.
  3. According to the text (page 368), some of the main areas of risk exposure for a group practice include: property (general liability and safety), technology, and financial practices. Determine one (1) specific hazard associated with one (1) of these risk categories and propose a strategy to mitigate the impact this risk could have on the practice. Support your analysis with a real-life example.
  4. Determine the main functions of the practice that will need to remain operational before, during, and / or after a natural disaster or public health emergency. Next, suggest a strategy that the practice should take to maintain communication with employees and patients, secure patient and financial records, and ensure that resources will available to care for patients during a disaster or emergency. Provide a rationale for your response.

Using Prison Programs to Manage Inmates

Overview

Prison programs encompass different forms of structured activities that take inmates out of their cells. Programs can take different forms. They can be based on different theories, principles, and philosophies. Varying correctional programs are utilized to manage inmate time. Program types include rehabilitative, psychological, medical, industrial, recreational, and facility maintenance. These programs often mitigate the oppressiveness of time, and keep inmates engaged rather than idle while behind bars.

Instructions

View the Riverbend City: Prison media piece. Focus on the tab Prison Programs.

You have been tasked, by the warden, with creating a presentation that will be used at an upcoming corrections conference, focusing on developing a better understanding of the dimensions of programs. Two pages in length, addressing the following about programs that fall into different classifications. Based on what you viewed in the media piece:

Describe one potential program to address an identified need that would fall into one of the following program types:

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Obesity

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

Obesity is the major risk factor for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), whereas an excessive intake of alcohol is the main driver of alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD). However, not all obese individuals have NAFLD, and not all individuals who consume large amounts of alcohol develop AFLD. Also, far from all individuals with simple steatosis (the first stage of both NAFLD and AFLD) go on to develop steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, or end-stage liver disease. A large part of this inter-individual variation is due to genetic factors. Some individuals carry susceptibility-increasing genetic variants that make them more vulnerable to developing NAFLD, and to the progression of the disorder. Conversely, some lucky individuals carry genetic variants that protect their livers from the deleterious effects of obesity or alcohol intake. Twin studies indicate that 50% of the risk of fatty liver disease is genetically determined. This heritability estimate is comparable to those of other complex traits such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, or ischemic heart disease. Additional evidence in support of a strong genetic component to NAFLD is the fact that the disorder varies greatly in prevalence among different ethnic groups. Three common (minor allele frequency > 0.05) steatogenic genetic variants with robust and replicable effects have been identified so far: PNPLA3 I148M, TM6SF2 E167K, and GCKR P446L. Together these variants explain less than 10% of the variation in hepatic fat content or approximately 20% of the total heritable component of hepatic steatosis. Thus, the major fraction of genetic variation that contributes to the development of fatty liver disease remains unknown. With only three genome-wide association studies GWAS published so far (two of these based on the same cohort), the field of fatty liver GWAS is still in its infancy. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is a complex disease in which genetic variations and environmental factors interact to determine disease phenotype and progression. Progress in the understanding of the genetic risk of NAFLD might offer the unique opportunity to translate this information into clinical practice. However, only a minor fraction of the genetic risk for fatty liver disease has been discovered. Furthermore, the relative importance of genetic and environmental factors will vary between populations depending on background modifier genes, lifestyle choices/challenges, and other factors such as the intestinal microbiome (Stender, Grarup, Hansen, 2019)
