LIFE STESS AND HEALTH

Go to this site (http://openstaxcollege.org/l/SRRS) to complete the SRRS scale and determine the total number of LCUs you have experienced over the last year.

Once you have completed the stress test, you will receive a score and some suggestions that you can use to mediate your stress level.  Please use your critical thinking skills to analyze the findings of your stress test.  Discuss your impressions of the accuracy of the stress test, given your personal life situation.  Now give several solutions from the rest of the chapter for mediating your stress levels. Your response should be two full typed (double-spaced) pages. Your assignment will go through Turnitin, and must be uploaded as a .doc or.docx file.

“The Holmes and Rahe Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS) uses the correlational research method to identify the connection between stress and health. That is, respondents’ LCU scores are correlated with the number or frequency of self-reported symptoms indicating health problems. These correlations are typically positive—as LCU scores increase, the number of symptoms increase. Consider all the thousands of studies that have used this scale to correlate stress and illness symptoms

When is frustration more likely to lead to aggression

  1. When is frustration more likely to lead to aggression? When is it more likely to produce stronger reactions (e.g., violence)? Discuss possible solutions to this problem, including anger management programs.
  2. How do people’s attributions regarding the causes of another person’s plight influence their willingness to help that person? Is this “typical response” justified within a Christian framework? Why or why not?

DISORDERS ASSIGNMENT

Directions

Name the disorder and symptoms in each of the following scenarios and describe the treatment you might suggest and why you think it is appropriate for each of the following scenarios. You can use the template below to help you organize your ideas. (Answers must be in complete sentences.)

Scenarios

  1. Maud is wandering around aimlessly. She often talks to herself. She appears to know no one and when police take her into custody, they cannot find any family. Maud continues to talk with “people” the police can neither see nor hear. She seems suspicious and “rambles on” about different topics.
  2. Doug is a very charming individual. He flirts relentlessly. He goes into many money making schemes without any remorse for the effect his endeavors have on other people’s lives.
  3. Jody has been afraid of dogs ever since she was bitten by one when she was four. Now twenty years later, she still refuses to visit the houses of friends who have pets.
  4. Diane blames herself for the ills of the world. She does not feel like getting out of bed each morning, or studying for the exams and assignments at school. She feels overwhelmed and as if she is sinking. She has also been putting on a lot of weight.
  5. Matthew talks fast, has been making a lot of plans for his future and gets very irritable when anyone interrupts him, or points out flaws in his reasoning. He has also been having a lot more affairs than he used to just two short months ago when he was feeling rather low.

In this Discussion, you will reflect on how the guest speakers challenged or changed your knowledge about these topics.

To prepare:

  • Identify in which areas you have the most knowledge and least knowledge based on the three diagrams (amorous expression, power expression, and spectrum of play) in the pleasure and sexual lifestyle section of the Sexological Assessment.
  • Consider how the Learning Resources this week challenged or changed your previous knowledge about these topics.

By Day 3

Choose one guest speaker to focus on for your main post. In your post, respond to the following questions:

  • Describe what you learned from the guest speaker.
  • Explain how the guest speaker challenged or changed your knowledge or perspective.
  • Explain how this might impact your comfort level when working with clients engaged in, or considering, various pleasure and sexual lifestyles.
