Cell Membranes & Solutions Transportation Concepts

Directions Membranes

The plasma membrane is a thin, fluid structure that is very flexible, and yet stable enough to stay together to keep the inner components of cells inside, and the outer environment outside. For this unit, you should do the following:

Download the Reading/Study Guide and then do a first reading of the material in the textbook, looking for possible answers to the questions.

Go through all of the content of the module, reading the material, and then watching the videos that cover the content from the unit. Use the videos to take additional notes that help to answer the questions on the study guide.

Complete the diffusion/osmosis worksheet.

Body Burden and Dioxins

Body Burden assignment: REACTION PAPER

This assignment needs to be typed, double spaced, normal font and margins on normal paper. ONE PAGE ONLY.

At the top of your paper, please make sure you also list your last name, first name, section number and Body Burden.

Use your Web Search engine (such as google) and search the term: Body Burden.

After reading about Body Burden and (DIOXINS), write-up the following:

Define Body Burden and the group of chemicals called Dioxins.

(Note that body burden includes more chemicals than Dioxins, but I want you to specifically mention Dioxins as well as any other chemicals you feel like writing about.)

What problems can these chemicals cause?

Where do they come from?

How do they get into the food chain and into your body?

What are hormone mimics?

Tell me what you think about what you have learned about body burden.

Tell me about any changes you may or not make with this information.

How Useful Are Interferons in Oncology

please I have uploaded the instructions of this paper and there are questions that we should discuss about chapter 53 attached below

Pharmacological Management Option Myocardial Infarction

Start the body of the paper on a new page after the title page. You should review current research on at least five (5) pharmacological management options for the disease (from paper 1) including drugs in clinical trials. Your review should include these components:

1) The physiologic rationale for using the drugs in treating your assigned disease.

2)The mechanisms of action of these drugs.

3)The side effects of these drugs and their contraindications.

4)The dosages and routes of administration of the drugs.

This section must include a minimum of 5 unique references that are recent and the paper should be 3 pages long.

Figures

Figures are allowed in any section, but do not count towards page count. These can be your original figures/drawings or (if properly cited) from one of your sources. Place all figures at the end of the paper.

the Origins of Life

Proponents of “Intelligent Design” insist that institutions of higher learning should permit, but not require, scientists and philosophers to develop hypotheses of divine origins for mankind. They argue that the concept of Intelligent Design implies nothing about beliefs, and only implies that “life had an intelligent source.” Basing your answer on the readings and course material, do you think Intelligent Design should be taught as legitimate course of study? Why or why not? Finally, why do you think a significant portion of the U.S. population today still doubts evolution, despite all of the evidence?

Your answer should be limited to 250 words (approx 1 page).

Cause of HIV AIDS

Broadly speaking, a disease is an abnormal condition that negatively impacts the health of an individual. Answer the questions. In-text citations are required and you must cite at least five sources on your reference page. Use photos annd charts . information in the attachment

Hemophilia & the Genetic Issue that Causes it

I would like you to prepare an essay describing one genetic disorder of your choice in detail. Your essay should cover the following topics, and be in full sentences and paragraphs – other than the punnet square:

  • What is the disorder called?
  • What is the genetic issue that causes it?
    • Be very specific – not just the mechanism, but, which chromosome is affected, what happens on that chromosome, where on that chromosome specifically, and, if known, what is the effect on the genetic code contained on that chromosome. Provide detail to the extent of the scientific knowledge available.
  • Is it autosomal or sex linked? Is it caused by a dominant, recessive, or incomplete dominant allele?
  • What are the symptoms of the disorder, and what are the health consequences to the person affected with the disorder?
  • Provide a punnet square of the cross between an affected parent who is homozygous for the disorder, and a carrier of the disorder. List the genotype and phenotype frequency expected in the offspring of such a cross (you are playing genetic counselor here). What would you advise the parents to do?

Remember in your own words. Do not copy and paste anything. Your own words. You have until August 2 to hand this in. A good target is a full page or so, not including the punnet square.

DNA and Protein Synthesis Worksheet

This is a lab assignment, detailed questions are post in the attached file. Need to finish Part 1 until Part 4

Here is part of question 1 for brief look if you can work this assignment or not.

The goals of this lab are:

1.To gain a basic understanding of the structure of DNA, RNA, and Proteins.

2.To gain a basic understanding of DNA replication and protein synthesis.

Introduction

This lab describes the structures and functions of DNA and RNA, the chemical molecules that carry hereditary information from generation to generation and allow it to be used in building and running the bodies of living things.

Terms you need to know for this lab:

Codon: Three mRNA bases that specify an amino acid.

Anticodon: tRNA that bases that match Codon.

Human Population Growth

Watch the following Youtube Video on Human Population Growth.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc4HxPxNrZ0

What was your overall impression after watching? Using the video data, calculate the growth rate (r) for humans. Which factors do you think are most important in influencing human carrying capacity (K)?

Also, Photosynthesis is the main process that CO2 is removed from the atmosphere. Increasing CO2 levels are the major cause of Global Climate Change.

Using the website below calculate how many trees are needed to offset your carbon footprint. Based on what you learned, what can you do to help become carbon neutral?

Place these two items on separate sheets. Do not combine
