ADHA Code of Ethics

This assignment will include two parts. First, you will be asked to take a closer look at Section 7 (Beemsterboer text, page 49 – 51) from the ADHA Code of Ethics, Standards of Professional Responsibility, and respond with your personal examples on how you demonstrate your commitment/obligation to the stated responsibility.

Secondly, you will be asked to reflect upon an ethical dilemma (under Responsibility “To Ourselves as Individuals” …. seek the advice and counsel of others when challenged with ethical dilemma”) you have encountered in either your professional practice or in your personal life where they were forced to make an ethical compromise based on the dilemma. Include one core value or ethical principle that was involved. Reflecting back on the compromise today, would you have done anything differently?

Note: there is no word count for either sections, but it is expected that you specifically explain in detail your responses. An APA title page is required. If you used an additional source, please include an in-text citation with a separate reference page as well.

Effects of Community Based Health Worker

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

How does trust play a role in building constituency relations and strategic partnerships for community engagement and in community mobilization?

Community engagement is used all over the world to promote health. Community engagement strategies and partnerships aim to engage communities, address new policies and health issues, which include obesity, cancer, heart disease, and mental illness (Cyril, Smith, Possamai-Inesedy, & Renzaho, 2015). An effective way of collaborating and engaging community mobilization is by working together with healthcare organizations, governmental public health departments, and stakeholders in the community to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the community (Prybil, 2020). In addition, community engagement has been known to be used as an advocated tool to be a voice to those in communities who are not able to speak up for themselves regarding issues within the community and health inequalities (Cyril et al., 2015). Collaboration and trust between community members and leaders are very beneficial as this partnership can influence public policies and allow citizens of the community to engage and have input on changes that need to made where they live. Moreover, community members need to understand that they are cared for and that they can depend on one another in difficult times, plus trust that those who are in charge will stand firm on commitments that are promised. Individuals in communities will follow rules, support local causes, and agree to change when information is shared upfront and accurately through community advocates and board members. Competency trust is built when individuals are well-informed and capable in their actions on what they do and say whether it is in regards to repairs, funding, or activities within a community (“Building trust in communities”). Trust is built when groups and communities see that board members and community leaders are not only talking a good game but are actually proving that they are getting the job done.

Challenges in Health Information Technology

Weekly Current Event Journal

HSA 4192 – Applied Health Information/Informatics

In this class you will be required to keep an online journal of current event articles relating to health information systems. This assignment provides you with an opportunity to explore what’s going on in the field of health informatics and to gain a better understanding of what you will be faced with when you complete your degree.

Each week you will research a relevant article and post the article as well as a summary of that article using the guidelines stated below.

The time frame of your research should fall between January 2010 and today. The articles you choose should discuss current issues and challenges associated with implementing health information systems as well as lessons learned and ‘good news’ stories of successful implementations. Search for articles on topics that arise in our readings each week, as this will help bring relevance to what we may cover in our discussion forums.

You will be required to post 8 current event articles with reviews (one each week). These will be posted in private journals that are only shared with me.

Please follow the following guidelines when creating your journal entries:

Your review is to be no longer than two paragraphs in length and contain the following sections written in your own words. A link to the article is to be included with your post.

    • Do not use any quoted or copied material.

Health Implications of The Change

By educating ourselves about the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPlate, we become more aware of what to eat. However, do we actually follow these guidelines in our daily lives? Unfortunately, many Americans struggle not only with food choices, but also food portions. We have become a society of “colossal cuisine” which has caused us to exceed the daily caloric recommendations.

Using Figure 2-10 from Chapter 2 of the textbook as a reference:

  • Discuss the change in our portion sizes over the last few decades. Why have they increased so significantly?
  • Explain two health implications of this change.
  • Explore the use of three simple and low cost tools/techniques people can use to help with portion control. What is one strategy you particularly like and why?

Your initial contribution should be 250 to 300 words in length. Your research and claims must be supported by your course text and a minimum of one additional scholarly source. Use proper APA formatting for in-text citations and references as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Guided Response: Respond to a minimum of two peers in at least 100 words. Compare the portion control tools and techniques that your peer suggested to those of your own. How could one of your peer’s tools/techniques benefit you?

Evolution of the Hospital Industry

Develop a 12-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you trace the evolution of the U.S. hospital industry by comparing and contrasting hospital care in the 1800s, the 1960s, and today.

INTRODUCTION

In this course, you will analyze the historical events that brought about the U.S. health care system as it is today. You will demonstrate your understanding of the evolution in medical education, the development of health regulation, and the evolution of malpractice and quality standards.

For this assessment, you will analyze the historical events that helped to shape health care as it is currently practiced, including the many areas that are in continual change today. It is a perfect time to study the past; we are currently in another eventful time in health care, with many changes occurring that will help create yet another layer of historical events.

Demonstrating a firm understanding of the evolution of the hospital and health care industries is a fundamental component to understanding the current system. Without knowledge of the past and how it created the present, we cannot begin to understand the current changing environment. Much has changed in the level of care we are provided due to the increased level of provider education and the advent of insurance and payment systems.

With this in mind, you will analyze the evolution of hospitals and the health care industry, and the development of government payment systems like Medicare and Medicaid, along with the development of private insurance.

DEMONSTRATION OF PROFICIENCY

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 1: Analyze trends in the U.S. health care system from a historical perspective.
    • Compare and contrast the hospital environments of the 1800s, 1960s, and today.
    • Compare and contrast the staff education level and the level of care provided in hospitals of the 1800s, 1960s, and today.

Employee Motivation in Health Care Industry

A major problem in many organizations, including healthcare, is how to motivate employees. High turnover rates are costly for organizations. Also, high absenteeism, low morale, low productivity, cyber loafing are just some of the problems that have been associated with unmotivated employees.

Write a brief 6-7 typed pages position paper (excluding the cover sheet and resources/bibliography/note pages) on how to motivate employees in healthcare organizations. You will need to determine which theoretical framework on motivation you feel is most beneficial in healthcare organizations. You can look at more than one theory, but will need to elaborate on how they work together to motivate employees. Then, you will need to use a minimum of five peer reviewed journal articles to support your position. Your position paper should be well organized and provides a formal approach to substantiate your position. Also, you will need to cite research sources using APA formatting.

Environmental Controversy Waste and Human Health

This week’s environmental controversy is centered on waste and human health. It addresses the question, should consumers have to pay for plastic or paper bags at grocery and other stores? Using the references below, write a 1-2 paragraph response to the questions posed to you. Remember to cite your sources using APA.

Background Information

Your textbook discusses the controversies associated with requiring consumers to pay for plastic and paper bags at their supermarkets and other stores. Advocates of the consumer pay system argue that bags are harmful to the environment and that under this system people would be encouraged to buy cloth bags or other reusable containers. Critics reply that many supermarkets already have drop bins for recycling old bags. They also argue that instead of making consumers pay for bags,
