The Cost of Economic Growth

The Cost of Economic Growth

In Chapter 7: The Environment – Part II, Hite and Seitz (2016) discuss the existing tension between development and the environment. Development brings economic growth as well as social and environmental changes. To a developing country, economic growth may be of a higher priority than the consequences to the long-term health of its citizens or its environment. On the other hand, poverty can also harm the environment such as how searching for land to farm contributes to deforestation.

Do wealthy nations using the labor of developing nations have responsibilities to the people and environment of that country? Why or why not? Be sure to use examples of existing companies to support your response.

Review the posts of your classmates and respond to at least one other post, offering a substantive comment on that classmate’s position on the issue(s).

How Would you answer this classmate?

RE: Week 10 | Discussion

Hello Professor Boyd and classmates,

The well-being of the people in developing countries is the responsibility of the nation’s government, but assistance from developed countries is an obligation developed countries should honor; after all, they have the resources. Companies such as Nike and Apple manufacture products in developed countries. Nike was accused of lowering labor standards with underpaying and forced overtime- an example of taking advantage of the poor. Wealthy countries such as the U.S should assist developing nations because the citizens of those countries play a significant role in the country’s wealth. The irony behind this week’s question is the rich organization in the U.S lacks care for the employees they hire regardless of the hard work performed. The point I am trying to make is wealthy nations sees the opportunity to build wealth and reduce overhead cost; therefore, they move the business to places where there s no law to protect against accommodations, meager wages, and diversity. The developed countries not only have the resource to assist; they have the know-how to generate change in the environmental issues the countries face.- poor drinking water and lack of education

Threats to the Global Environment

Due in Week 10

The information you provided in your PowerPoint presentation on Threats to the Global Environment has led to productive debates at the United Nations General Assembly! Hence, they are now asking you to create an additional analysis report to respond to the issues raised in these debates.

Your fourth project as a consultant for the United Nations is to develop a report that addresses the issues raised by some of the member states of the United Nations.

Step I. Consider the Issues

In Assignment 3a, you were asked to create a PowerPoint identifying the four most critical threats out of eight threats provided in the table below.

Energy sources Civil war
Globalization Poor health of entire populations
Lack of educational opportunities Cultural taboos
Inappropriate uses of technology Climate change

There are four remaining threats that you did not discuss in your PowerPoint. This assignment will focus on those four. Here are the specific tasks you will complete:

  • Review the remaining four threats that you did not use in Assignment 3a.
  • Pick two of the four to focus on in Assignment 3b.
  • Identify the reasons why you think these two threats are less critical than the four threats you chose for your PowerPoint presentation.

Step II. Prepare Your Report

The UN has given you the following guidelines.

Introduction

Briefly introduce the topic of the analysis (about 100-150 words).

  1. State the topic and intent of the paper.
  2. Identify the four threats you will discuss in the paper in the order in which they appear in the paper.

Section I. Threat 1

  1. Write an opening statement describing the perception of the threat.
  2. Write one page giving three reasons that explain why you saw this threat as less critical than the four you chose for your presentation in Assignment 3a.
  3. Support these reasons with at least three credible sources.

Section II. Threat 2

  1. Write an opening statement describing the perception of the threat.
  2. Write one page giving three reasons to explain why you saw this threat as less critical than the four you chose for your presentation in Assignment 3a.
  3. Support these reasons with at least three credible sources.

Conclusion

  • Offer a summary (one page or less) of your defense of your choices that the United Nations can use to address their prioritization concerns.

Formatting Requirements

  • Your paper may consist of up to four pages (not including the cover or reference pages).
  • Create headings for each section of your paper as follows:
    • Introduction
    • Threat 1 (include the name of your chosen threat)
    • Threat 2 (include the name of your chosen threat)
    • Conclusion
  • Use and cite four to six credible sources in your analysis. You may use the same source for more than one threat as long as you use a minimum of four different sources. A list of potential resources is available at the end of this course guide.
  • Make sure your paper contains both in-text citations and a source list, per SWS guidelines; refer to the Strayer Writing Standards (SWS) document for reference.
  • Include a cover page with your name, the date you submitted the paper, and your instructor’s name.

Future of Feminism Research

Although the paper is opinion-based, you are expected to present clear, concise, and critical arguments in support of your claim. You are not expected to go beyond the material we have discussed so far in class. However, if you choose to use other sources, be sure to cite them properly.

What is your understanding of feminism? Who is a feminist and who can be a feminist? Discuss the way class and race are part of feminist organizing and theorizing. Use Angela Davis’ essay or Yen Espiritu’s essay as a guide to understanding the intersectionality of race, class, and gender.

  • Distinguish what you are most intrigued (surprised, excited, fascinated) by, and if applicable, identify where your understanding is still unclear or you have questions.

    • What is your personal response to this piece? Do you have any personal experiences that connect with this story?
    • Also Reply to this post: “Religion, in my country, has a huge influence on the way of life of the people. In Ethiopia, the people have deep connections with their religions either orthodox Christianity or islam( the two dominant one’s) and these religions affect other institutions like family and educations. I grew up in a Christian family and the culture, ceremonies and holidays of the orthodox Christian religion has a big impact in my upbringing as a child. The holidays of Christians and islam’s religions are celebrated throughout the country. The cultural ceremonies and the traditional teaching influence the life of every family in Ethiopia positively. There are schools that teach bible or quran in addition to other classes given at the school. I learned in a catholic school and I was learning bible as one class when I was in elementary school. At micro level, the religions affect the way of life of every person or family. Religion had an impact on the politics of Ethiopia in history. Religion and politics were not separated for long period of our history. The kings were also the head of the dominant religion of the country which was orthodox Christianity. The religion also involved in politics during the imperial period of my country. At macro level, the religions affect the way the governments rule the people especially during the imperial era of the nation. But that is not the reality existing in my country now. Religions and state are separated.“

Once a tutor has accepted, I will post the five questions about social problems.

It is a timed test, therefore the time allotted will be 60 mins no exceptions!

As long as the question is answered fully, that will be fine.
