Controlling and preventing loss is a critical goal of risk management. Hopkin discusses two terms – likelihood and magnitude – that relate to this goal. Select one of these terms and briefly describe how it may be taken into consideration when to successfully mitigate loss.

Risk likelihood or probability in risk analysis is one of the deep-root elements that demonstrate the chance of risk to occur or impact any organization or business at a certain time. That risk can be determined, recognized, and measured so that facilitating the process of risk control. Risk likelihood can be determined on an inherent basis for any particular risk, or can be determined at the current level of risk, paying regard to the control measures that are in place (Hopkin, 2017). Thus, recognizing the causes of elevation in likelihood’s impact will undoubtedly enhance the prevention and risk control approach. For example, when car accidents’ frequencies are increased in any part of the world, the government must look out for the reasons for this peak in the accident number. One of the factors might be the speed limit is too high or at a dangerous level. Thence, the transportation department must minimize the speed limit in the highways and internal roads to control this factor, so the drivers stay at the safety limits, and car accidents will gradually diminish. Control the losses demands factors’ recognition, those leads to a rise in the likelihood of a loss. The losses control using likelihood recognition can be done by halting the factors or minimizing the impact. After the potential risks have been identified, the project team then evaluates each risk based on the probability that a risk event will occur and the potential loss associated with it. Not all risks are equal. Some risk events are more likely to happen than others, and the cost of a risk can vary greatly ( Adrienne, 2019).

Practically, the hazard risk likelihood decreasing aspect will enhance the approach of control and loss prevention. Understanding the nature of the risk and how it will impact and when is the key to acknowledging the hazard risk likelihood. Hopkin (2017) used an example of frequency car accidents for a particular motor company fleet in a specific time and linked that to controlling this hazard risk likelihood by implementing the monthly car maintenance.

For this weeks discussion post I chose to talk about the dietary and physical activity among high school students. “Nutrition and physical activity are important for optimal growth and development and chronic disease prevention. Approximately half of U.S. adults have a chronic disease that is related to inadequate diet quality and physical activity, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, or obesity. Such diseases can affect productivity and quality of life and contribute to high health-care costs” (2020). When it comes to physical activity especially amongst teens in the high school population, physical education instructors should be able to build curriculums that also involve discussing nutrition and healthy eating nd exercising habits.

For this week’s discussion topic, we are asked to use a successful campaign from the Centers for Disease Control, Prevention Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report found at the following website, with statistics to illustrate community improvement. The report that I chose is the Percentage of Adolescents Meeting Federal Fruit and Vegetable Intake Recommendations — Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, United States, 2017. This refers to an important health topic regarding adolescents consuming an inadequate amount of fruits and vegetables to reduce cardiovascular disease. Youth in today’s society are on the go and not paying attention to what they consume. Their metabolism is going about a hundred miles an hour, but high schools do not monitor their nutritional consumption. There is no good plan for adolescents to eat enough fruits and vegetables to meet the U, S Department of Agriculture. High schools have too many bad selections for youth like chips, sodas, and sweets. This enables adolescents to chose what’s quick and convenient. According to Samantha J. Lange, MPH1,2; Latetia V. Moore, PhD2; Diane M. Harris, PhD2; Caitlin L. Merlo, MPH3; Seung Hee Lee, PhD2; Zewditu Demissie, PhD4; Deborah A. Galuska, PhD2. (2021), “The proportion of U.S. high school students meeting federal intake recommendations remained low in 2017, with 7.1% consuming enough fruits and 2.0% consuming enough vegetables to meet USDA recommendations.” There needs to be a push from the media to advertise and promote healthy behaviors to adolescents than advertising soda, chips, and fast food that eventually lead to cardiovascular disease and other health concerns.

Hepatitis Outbreak and Prevention

Below are some hints on how to complete the Hepatitis case study. Remember, case studies take time and you should plan for spending AT LEAST 3-5 hours on this assignment. If you haven’t looked at the assignment yet, please view the PowerPoint and then answer the questions on the Word document. Both of these are found under Module 2. Let me know if you have any questions. For the Hep Outbreak Case Study: Use the PP document for information as you progress through the questions on the word document. The word document also has important tables and figures (located on last few pages). ***Please remember to include an Epi Curve AND calculated attack rates in your answers.

These are requested in the Powerpoint, not in the word document with the questions. You will only calculate Attack Rates for the Total of each age group. You can’t do ARs by gender b/c the populations of males/females are not given. You should end up with 13 ARs (for each age group and the Total). Example AR% equation and answer for 5-9 age group: 4 / 1000 x 100 = 0.4% You will complete the Epi Curve using Excel. First thing you need to do is list the dates in Column A (x-axis) and the # of cases in Column B (y-axis). You do not need to do a lead or end incubation period. You can start the curve with the first date of onset and end with the last date. Make sure the lag time between each mark on the x-axis is consistent (ie, 2 days, 4 days, 7 days), but don’t go above 7 day intervals. The x-axis labels should be even date increments (ex, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, etc). You do not need to do a histogram (as mentioned in the CDC Module). Just use a column/bar chart (which is the first choice given when you go to Insert -> Chart). The x-axis label should read “Date of Onset” and the y-axis should read “Cases.”
