Evidence-Based Project, Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews

The Assignment (Evidence-Based Project)

Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews

Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

· Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.

· Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.

· Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.

· Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article.

· Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. Be specific and provide examples.

To Prepare:

· Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.

· Develop a PICO(T) question to address the clinical issue of interest you identified in Module 2 for the Assignment. This PICOT question will remain the same for the entire course.

· Use the key words from the PICO(T) question you developed and search at least four different databases in the Walden Library. Identify at least four relevant systematic reviews or other filtered high-level evidence, which includes meta-analyses, critically-appraised topics (evidence syntheses), critically-appraised individual articles (article synopses). The evidence will not necessarily address all the elements of your PICO(T) question, so select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available.

· Reflect on the process of creating a PICO(T) question and searching for peer-reviewed research.

Importance Of Synthesis In The Translation Science

Importance Of Synthesis In The Translation Science

The underlying intention of all translation science strategies is the translating, transferring of best available research evidence to influence outcomes associated with a practice problem. As established, we have national practice problems that need attention. Over the past weeks, our focus on eight national practice problems confirms outcomes that are substandard at both the national level and across our local practice settings. A key element of a well-written synthesis includes a discussion that presents the facts related to a practice problem in an objective manner. It is not a summary of one study article after another.  Synthesizing research study articles is a crucial skill for the DNP practice scholar.

– Comment about the importance of synthesis and translation science for the DNP practice scholar.

human-induced environmental issue

human-induced environmental issue

Research, identify and discuss a human-induced environmental issue either on a global scale, on a national scale, or on a local scale. (The environmental issue is one that is caused by humans and not by nature). What ethical conflicts, if any, did this environmental problem create?

How effective is the Environmental Protection Agency

How effective is the Environmental Protection Agency

Paper #1

How effective is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in terms of environmental policy and practice? Based on your research findings, should the EPA, as some suggest, be eliminated? Explain.

Background

Because the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is under the Executive Branch of the government, the EPA policies are at the whim of the White House administration, conservative and liberal.

The White House – any White House – doesn’t want to hear a terrible lot from the EPA. It’s not an agency that makes friends for a president. – William K. Reilly, former administrator for the EPA.

Paper #2

Research (scholarly sources) articles about household chemicals. Seek out and make a list of chemicals and toxins you have in and around your home. Share your findings (with honesty) in discussion with the class. Are you surprised at the results? Are there items that could be disposed of and not missed? How much is being stored just because “it is not all used”? How would you safely dispose of these chemicals?

Background:Did you know there are 16 specific Biblical references to natural occurrences to poisons and their effects? Chemical and biological poisons, for example, are mentioned in Jeremiah 8:14 and 8:17. Venoms (asp) and plants (grapes) in Deuteronomy 32:24 and 32:34. And my personal favorite is Numbers 5:11-31 where bitter water was used as a test of fidelity on a wife who was suspected of being unfaithful.

We all have and use chemicals for various reasons – both natural chemicals and synthetic.  However, most of us do not really do a good job of inventorying what we have under sink cabinets, kitchens, bathrooms, garages, attics, basements, sheds, etc.

Paper #3

An estimated 50% of the world’s wetlands have been lost to urbanization and urbanization. But “so what,” states one of your friends. “Who needs wetlands when we could use more food and urban neighborhoods?” As an environmental student, discuss the importance of wetlands.

Paper #4

1) View the videos, “Guerrilla Gardener” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzZzZ_qpZ4w – A guerilla gardener in South Central LA

Optional: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2eGomEdgc8 – Break out of food prisons.

2) Based on the video, pick one or more topics from the entire course of study and discuss how urban gardening addresses your chosen topic(s).

Background:

Gardens in Biblical times are pivotal to human survival – from the Garden of Eden on.  Note that gardens are attached to places.

“I will bring my exiled people of Israel back from distant lands, and they will rebuild their ruined cities and live in them again. They will plant vineyards and gardens; they will eat their crops and drink their wine.” – Amos 9:14;

“Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat their produce.” – Jeremiah 29:5.
