Self-Assessment Of Leadership, Collaboration, And Ethics

Write a 3–4 page response to an employment questionnaire requiring a self-evaluation of your leadership and ethical experiences.

An understanding of one’s own approaches to leadership, motivation, collaboration and ethical situations is important to the evolution of an effective leader. An introspective lens can help emerging leaders better understand and hone these important skills.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Apply qualities, skills and practices used by effective healthcare leaders.
    • Analyze one’s own leadership qualities and actions relative to a specific experience.
  • Competency 2: Apply practices that facilitate effective interprofessional collaboration.
  • Competency 3: Apply ethical codes and diversity best practices in health care organizations.
    • Analyze actions taken in response to an ethical dilemma, using an ethical code.
  • Competency 4: Produce clear, coherent, and professional written work, in accordance with Capella’s writing standards.
    • Conveys clear meaning in active voice, with minimal issues in grammar, usage, word choice, spelling, or mechanical errors.

Legislation Grid And Testimony

Legislation Grid And Testimony

As a nurse, how often have you thought to yourself, If I had anything to do about it, things would work a little differently? Increasingly, nurses are beginning to realize that they do, in fact, have a role and a voice.

Many nurses encounter daily experiences that motivate them to take on an advocacy role in hopes of impacting policies, laws, or regulations that impact healthcare issues of interest. Of course, doing so means entering the less familiar world of policy and politics. While many nurses do not initially feel prepared to operate in this space effectively, the reward is the opportunity to shape and influence future health policy.

To Prepare:

  • Select a      bill that has been proposed (not one that has been enacted) using the congressional websites provided in the Learning Resources.

The Assignment: (1- to 2-page Legislation Grid; 1-page Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement)

Be sure to add a title page, an introduction, purpose statement, and a conclusion. This is an APA paper.

Part 1: Legislation Grid

Based on the health-related bill (proposed, not enacted) you selected, complete the Legislation Grid Template. Be sure to address the following:

  • Determine the legislative intent of the bill you have reviewed.
  • Identify the proponents/opponents of the bill.
  • Identify the target populations addressed by the bill.
  • Where in the process is the bill currently? Is it in hearings or committees?

Part 2: Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement

Based on the health-related bill you selected, develop a 1-page Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement that addresses the following:

  • Advocate a position for the bill you selected and write testimony in support of your position.
  • Describe how you would address the opponent to your position. Be specific and provide examples.
  • At least 2 outside resources and 2-3 course-specific resources are used.

Family Disaster Plan

Family Disaster Plan

For this paper you must cite and reference 2 sources. The paper should be 2–3 pages and written using current APA format. Your paper should address the following:

a. How would you prepare for the following situation?   (provide realistic examples and details for safety and survival)

(Scenario) At this moment, you are sitting at home working on your class. Suddenly, the National Weather Bureau sends an alert across your cell phone—a tornado is headed your way. You have 15 minutes before touchdown in your neighborhood. What is your plan? This is a ‘shelter in place’ scenario, you cannot outrun the tornado. Identify a safe place in your home to take shelter.

You must include research. Cite and reference two sources and explain the recommended safety measures in a tornado emergency and how you would apply them to your specific living arrangements.

b. How prepared are you in the event of a disaster? Describe your level of disaster preparedness using specific examples and references to your “go-bag” and preparedness checklist assignments .

fire-related disaster

Example: “I am more prepared for a water-related disaster than a fire-related disaster even though I live in a highly secluded, forested area. I have a boat as transportation in the event of flooding, but I do not have rain barrels or fire barrier supplies on hand.”

Example:  “There were many missing items on my preparedness checklist. I realized that I do not own a flashlight. If I had to use my phone as a light it would drain the battery very quickly.

c. Reflect on how prepared you were before this class and compare it with how prepared you are now.

Have you acquired any new emergency items?

Do you plan to take any additional trainings or certification courses?

Have you shared your knowledge with friends and family?

Guided Response: Most importantly, Respond substantively to a minimum of one classmate’s initial post who was assigned a different pain reduction strategy than yours. In responding, summarize your thoughts on the availability and effectiveness of the strategy. Are any special resources required for their strategy and are they available in your location? Do you agree with your classmate’s assessment of the effectiveness of the strategy? Have you ever used or observed the strategy or technique, and was it helpful? Would you consider employing this strategy in the future for your own pain management, or recommending it to others? Your response(s) should demonstrate that you have read any existing replies on the board. In your response, mention information and viewpoints already expressed by existing responses to the same post. Provide a courteous and interactive learning environment. (See the Netiquette Rules link on the About Discussions page in the left navigation if you have questions.) Continue to monitor the content board through 6:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week and reply to anyone who has responded to your original post.

Learning Outcomes
This week students will:

Evaluate biopsychosocial factors associated with chronic, serious, and disabling illness.
Explain biopsychosocial aspects of coping with chronic, serious and disabling illness.
Identify common serious illness syndromes and available support interventions designed to maximize adaptive coping strategies.
Introduction
Welcome to Week Five of PSY361! Unfortunately, not all illnesses are minor or temporary. Many disease syndromes are serious and even life-threatening. Some of these conditions are also chronic, meaning that the individual cannot look forward to a resolution of symptoms. To compound the impact of these illnesses on the individual’s life, symptoms or body damage from the disease process may result in functional loss. This can reduce enjoyment of life, impair productivity, and diminish self-esteem. Even in the face of such serious challenges, health-related behaviors can be adaptive and maximize successful outcomes. This week we will explore how the integration of mental health services into care delivery systems can assist individuals in understanding the options available in these circumstances.

Cultural Differences in Communications

Cultural Differences in Communications

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

Cultural humility

Cultural humility focuses on public health officials developing and showing awareness of the uniqueness of other’s cultures and learning how their culture influences their health. This awareness will be used to treat and communicate better with the patient (Prasad et al., 2016).

Comparison of my definition vs “Reflections on Cultural Humility” on cultural humility

I think my definition of cultural humility is comparable to the points made about cultural humility by the newsletter titled ‘Reflections on Cultural Humility.” This is because it focuses on three points which centered on being open-minded to other’s cultural differences and understanding that although the cultures are different, which impacts their health and behavior differently, no one is more superior than others. Lastly, becoming aware and understanding of other’s cultural differences will allow us to form a better relationship with each other so that we can advocate more for each other (Waters & Asbill, 2013).

Transparancy

Apart from cultural humility, I think transparency is another principle that is necessary when communicating public health content to engage communities to act. Transparency is the act of making sure relevant information is clearly communicated and distributed. Therefore, being up front and centered about the information and what the goal and focus of the intended intervention or program is about will be more likely to grasp the attention of the community then being ambiguous.

Example of Transparency

Transparency in public health is essential, and a lack of transparency could lead to severe consequences. For example, this Covid-19 pandemic at the beginning was not treated with transparency and instead became a political agenda that caused thousands of deaths in America. Furthermore, the lack of transparency when the disease initially started in China is why it became a pandemic. If they had told the world about the outbreaks earlier and provided more detailed information, better emergency preparedness responses would have been initiated to prevent it from becoming a pandemic. Furthermore, this lack of transparency on the seriousness of the virus resulted in people not wanting to take the vaccines because, once again, transparency is a factor.

Defining Cultural Humility in the Context of Public Health

Defining Cultural Humility in the Context of Public Health

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

Provide your own definition of cultural humility in the context of public health and Topic Material Comparison.

Cultural humility from my perspective in the context of public health is being able to advocate for change and understand the culture of individuals, and how their beliefs can impact their health actions that will bring guidance in providing the right methods in treating individuals of different lifestyles. My definition compares the points made in the Topic Material, “Reflection on Cultural Humility, as both definitions add points of constructing and implementing approaches that help understand differences among cultures, and the point to bring a level of awareness to address gaps while advocating for systemic changes for all. Moreover, cultural humility has aspirations of acquiring partnerships, creating change within communities, and understanding diversity among groups (Waters & Asbill, 2013).

In addition to cultural humility, describe one other principle necessary when communicating public health content to engage communities to act and example.

Defining Cultural Humility in the Context of Public Health

In addition to cultural humility to engage communities, Participatory Techniques for community-based program development is beneficial as it teaches planning, monitoring, and evaluation approaches. This type of program allows individuals within a community to improve their health through participatory learning, and action (PLA), which allows one to examine their needs, find resolutions to problems and resources to meet those needs while developing action plans for solutions (Negri et al., 1998). Moreover, when communities identify issues on their own, they tend to rally together to find reasonable, sustainable, long-term results. An example of this would be for communities to engage, and collectively address their concerns, provide assessments, and build teams for sharing of information to advocate for change within their community.
