Behavioral Pattern to Help Beat Covid 19
Theories of health behavior are generally based on the idea that humans act in rational ways. However, humans are not always rational when it comes to decisions about their health. The emerging area of behavioral economics sheds light on this matter, along with insights about how to create conditions that facilitate health-promoting behavior.
In your initial post, choose a health behavior of interest to you (e.g., regular exercise, healthy diet, brushing teeth twice daily, getting regular mammograms, adherence with medication for chronic conditions), and discuss barriers to these behaviors. Using some of the key ideas from behavioral economics, along with examples of successful interventions described in your textbook, describe steps you might take to encourage health behaviors. What kinds of steps might you adopt as interventions to promote healthy behaviors on individual and community levels? How might you communicate these in a way that is culturally sensitive and respectful and not viewed as manipulative?
