Gender Equality In China The Development And Struggle

Community engagement has a long history in the Western world, with the women’s rights movements, labourmovements, environmental activism, and civil rights movements. China too has a long tradition of movements for community engagement and inclusivity, which has helped to shape the country as it is today.

You are to do your own research into one aspect of community engagement in the history of China (or in China today). You can consider any one of the topics we have discussed in class to date, including gender equality, the environment, rural China, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, etc. or any other topic that is of interest to you. You must relate your essay to the ppt I attached.

Your essay should be around 1000 words long. To write your essay, you should reference a minimum of five journal articles, books, book chapters, reports etc., of which at least two need to be peer-reviewed. You should follow the APA style for your referencing. If you are not sure how to reference in APA the OWL Perdue webpage is super helpful.

The grade of this assignment accounts for 20% of your total. Your final mark will be determined based on the following:

• Clear introduction describing which aspect of community engagement in China will be discussed in the paper

• An introduction and discussion of the historical development, key events and characteristics, cultural origins, and societal impacts of the social movement in question

• The use of appropriate evidence

• Appropriate referencing of sources used in the essay – a minimum of five sources, of which two at least must be peer-reviewed

• Following essay format in your writing, including a clear introduction and conclusion, as well as a logical presentation of your research

Social Justice and Equity in Education

Defining Social Justice

One of the important themes in the MAECEL program is social justice. If you do an internet search, you will find many definitions for social justice. However, within each definition it should be clear that each has one thing in common; equity. Have you ever thought about what the word equity means, specifically as it relates to children? What about equity in education? As you will read this week, the achievement gap that exists in education today has a direct and important relationship to social justice. As leaders in the field of early childhood education, you are charged with the care and education of this nation’s children, and as such, social justice should be at the forefront of your learning. The aim of your educational journey throughout this program is not to simply help you be touched by the importance of social justice, but rather to be moved by it. Taylor (n.d.) states that to be touched by social justice is simply to be a “sympathetic observer”, but to be truly moved by social justice is “something entirely different” (para. 14). Determining that difference and your role in the transformation of education is the aim of this discussion this week.

Name of Project: Engage-Explore Project Start Date: ?
Course: DEC 250 Instructor: DEC Instructor’s Name Due Date: ?
Key Knowledge and Understanding (CLO’s) 1, 3, 4-5
Project Overview For the Engage-Explore project, you will explore and apply what you have previously learned about yourself, your career interest, and an interview with a professional to choose a professional issue or problem that you will then research in order to create a project involving a group peer review process. This project is intended to help you begin to develop strong critical thinking and communication skills while establishing relationships with peers, university faculty, staff, and community professionals. Completion of the final project due in week 14 will require the creation of some type of finished product that has integrated all of the resources introduced and explored during the course in order to communicate a clear picture of the issue or problem. Completion of these steps and the final product will account for 15% of your total grade in the course.
Driving Question After exploring and investigating an important issue or problem in society related to your professional interests, consider the following question:

How can I create a final project that will best synthesize the research to help myself and others better understand the underlying elements and factors causing and relating to my chosen issue or problem?

Poverty Aspects in the US

Take a deep dive into Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality’s website (http://inequality.stanford.edu (Links to an external site.)). In a college-level, critically sound essay, draw on the website’s “Research” section and describe two significant aspects of poverty in the U.S. (You will find this on the main website’s left-hand menu. Hover over “Research” and then select “Research topics”.) Discuss why you chose these aspects of poverty, how they might intersect, and where you see them in society. Refer to the Critical Thinking Activity Rubric available in the Course Content for grading details.

Your assignment should be a paper 2-3 pages long, not including the required title and reference pages. Adhere to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA (Links to an external site.). Include at least three scholarly sources (you may use the recommended readings) to support your answers. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these sources. Remember to use in-text citations as appropriate and to include your sources in your reference page.

Critical & Facilitating Actors Enclosed Organizational Change

  • Identify the critical actors and facilitating actors, which include both actors who might support or against the change (about 1 page)
  • Based on your force-field analysis chart, provide explanations for each force that you listed in the chart as well as the type of the forces (e.g., amenability, potency, and consistency) (about 4 pages)
  • Write about what actions you plan to take with respect to each force, especially for working and uncertain forces (about two and a half page)
  • Analyze how the change may affect different stakeholders and make certain to include (primary and secondary) service users.

List who they are and explain in what way they can influence the change effort.

For example, 1) what administrative or informal power this actor has to influence the change? In what ways? 2) in general, does this actor represent a driving force or restraining force? Note: an actor can act both as a driving and restraining force, so here is a general estimate. If you have difficulty in assigning an actor a type of the force this actor (he, she, they, or it) represents, you can skip this part. In other words, just identify the actor and no need to specify what exact kind of force it represents.

Try to identify as many environmental, organizational, and participant variables as possible if your change case seems to have too simple a force-field. When think through, you will be amazed that how even a tiny change actually involves many stakeholders and is influenced by many factors. – refer to the reading summaries that I provided you as well as your peers’ presentation slides of the textbook.

Reaction essays are just that: a student’s expanded reaction to a discussion session, downloaded material, textbook reading or multimedia presentation. There is no research component required for this paper. (Although, if you choose, there can be.) It is not a formal piece. Still, it should be thoughtful and well-planned. That reaction can take many forms.

These can include:

1.) Expand on an entry in a discussion section. (If you take this option, please cut and past your initial post at the start of your reaction essay.)

or

2.) Taking a particular position on a class discuss where there was a divergence of opinion.

or

3.) Discussing how a particular discussion, module or textbook reading made you think of something in a new way or reminded you of a contemporary issue or literary work.

or

4.) Write about the way an issue from the discussions, modules or readings connected you to some other aspect of your life.

In this essay – a minimum of 300, maximum of 500 words – a student states his/her opinion/idea , backs up that opinion/idea and concludes the essay. This can be submitted at any time from the first day of class until the due day of the Reaction Essay.

Dynamics Racial Gender & Sexual Identities

This scenario allows you to incorporate the concept of intersectionality as you consider the identities of each participant in this case study.

It takes place at work among a group of fellow employees. As part of this case study, we will take a look at the interaction between a few employees and how these interactions reflect, challenge, or complicate their intersectional identities. To help assess the situation, you will write a response where you consider the approach to take when the behavior of some employees is deemed inappropriate by another employee. What is the importance of each person’s multiple identities in this situation?

SCENARIO:

You are an employee who overhears conversations among your coworkers. While on break, two male coworkers, Robert and Henry, usually go outside by themselves to talk and smoke a cigarette. Robert is African-American and Henry is Hispanic. One day, Shirley is also outside and overhears bits and pieces of their conversation. Shirley, who is a white woman, is concerned that they regularly have conversations that are inappropriate for the workplace. She says that she overheard these coworkers making crude sexual references about women, sharing images and graphics of a sexist nature on their cell phones.

The matter is brought to the attention of their supervisor, Allen, who is white and male. Allen is also gay. Allen tells Robert and Henry that he is concerned about a potential gender bias in the workplace that makes gender and sexual minorities feel unsafe.

Robert makes a comment to Allen that their conversation was private and that Shirley was not invited into the conversation. He further states that white women are always inserting themselves into other people’s business. He feels that he and Henry are being called out on their behavior because they hold lower paid jobs in the organization.
