The Motor Skills Analysis

Assignment 1: Diagram a motor skill using the file picture information processing model.

  • Explain the individual’s ability and all situational/environmental issues
  • Explain issues of anticipation and possible arousal associated with learning and performing the skill

Alzheimer Dementia Patients Symptoms

Within the weekly journal, you will reflect on any thoughts and feelings you have related to each course topic. You will provide:

  •  A brief introduction to each topic (a couple of sentences is adequate)
  •  Specific thoughts and feelings connected to each topic (based on readings, lecture content, and the films).
  •  A response to each journal prompt for each topic.
  • Prompt 1:Give an example of a common daily activity or situation (i.e. going out to dinner) and then briefly describe how someone with dementia might perceive it quite differently as compared to someone without dementia.Prompt 2:How is our ability to imagine what it might be like to experience signs and symptoms of dementia important for giving this clinical population their due regard in society and to respond appropriately to their needs? How is imagination and/or perspective taking critical for ethical concerns for this population?

Medical Care Evaluation of Hypothesis Testing Steps

The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate the steps of hypothesis testing.

Hypothesis testing is a central component in understanding and interpreting public health research. Research questions are applied through a testable hypothesis established before the data is collected. It provides the rationale for the study and guides the researcher in what tests to use and how to interpret the results.

Identify a peer-reviewed article from one of the data sources available on the “Data Resource Document.” You will need to visit the various websites listed on the document to search for a research article that is of interest to you. Include the link to the selected article in a 750-1,000 word summary that address the following as it relates to the article.

  1. What test statistic did the researchers use? What did the authors set as the significance level of the test statistic?
  2. What was the null hypothesis? What was the alternative hypothesis? Were these clearly stated in the article, or did you have to extrapolate based on the background in the article?
  3. Discuss potential bias that may have resulted from the study design and data collection that could have affected the validity of the test.
  4. Summarize the story told by the data used in this study as it applies to the larger population
  5. Comment on whether the authors used the interpretation approach discussed in the textbook, including (a) summarize why the study was done, (b) discuss the factual results, (c) explain what the results mean, and (d) make suggestions for future research.
  6. Please cite any and all references used

Discussion: Unit 6, Due Wednesday by 11:59 pm CT

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Read the following article and decide if the patient received quality care.

An example of the difficulty of making judgments about quality of care could be illustrated through the experience of a patient undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery. A patient with significant coronary artery disease consults with a cardiac surgeon prior to surgery. The cardiac surgeon spends little time with the patient during the preoperative visit. She makes little effort to educate the patient about what will happen before, during, and after surgery. One week later, the surgery is performed without complications. The length of stay for the patient in the acute care hospital is eleven days, which is five days longer than the average length of stay for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery in that particular hospital. The total hospital costs for that patient are $10,000 more than for an average patient in that particular hospital. After adjusting the length of stay and cost for case complexity, the cost and length of stay is still much greater than for comparable cases in that hospital and region. The patient, however, survived the operation and had an uncomplicated hospital course and was free from postoperative complications. Three months later, the patient’s health is excellent, and he is able to enjoy tennis free from symptoms.

From a technical standpoint, the operation went flawlessly and the clinical outcome was excellent. The “art” of caring for the patient, however, was questionable, as the patient received little information about the care that he was going to receive before, during, and after surgery. The physician exhibited poor communication skills. And if utilization were considered a measure of quality, the prolonged length of stay and increased costs associated with the operation might be considered indicative of suboptimal quality of care.

  • Now you decide. Did this patient receive excellent or poor quality medical care? Why?
