ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF DIFFERENT ANOVA DESIGNS

Below are general types of ANOVA designs we will be reading about in this module. The differences in methodology are based on experimental design:

  1. One-Way Between-Subjects or Within-Subjects Design
  2. Two-Way Between-Subjects Factorial Design

We discussed the pros and cons of one-way between-subjects ANOVA and one-way within-subjects ANOVA in Module 6. Use some of those facts discussed in that last discussion and debate the advantages and disadvantages of one-way ANOVA designs vs two-way factorial ANOVA designs with your classmates. Summarize the advantages and disadvantages of each from a statistical and practical perspective, and provide a real-world example of an experiment and design for the two-way factorial ANOVA.

Use your real-world example to explain in detail, how the example you provided fits the design selected for that example (two-way between-subjects factorial design). Make sure to discuss your:

  • Experimental design
  • Sample size
  • Number of variables
  • Number of levels for each variable
  • Possible interactions between variable

FATE OF FRIENDS

In our reading this week, we learned more about some of the philosophers’ perspectives on how to cultivate that fertile ground for engaging in meaningful friendships. Many philosophers seem to agree that friendship is not about being knowledgeable or following a specific prescription for being a true friend. Vernon’s summary of Socrates’ position entails the following:

Then the individuals have the opportunity not only to learn about the limitations of the beliefs that they hold true but also about the flaws in their character and the vulnerabilities of their temperaments. These are, after all, far deeper sources of delusion than mere rational confusion (p. 255).

In a similar vein, Vernon interprets soul friendship in the light of John Keats “negative capability” as the “ability to live life without certainty, but with an expectant open-heartedness” (p. 254).

In this week’s reading material, the following philosophers discuss their views on this topic: Socrates, Plato, Emerson, Aristotle. Make sure to incorporate their views as you answer each discussion question. Think about how their views may be similar or different from your own. In at least 250 words total, please answer each of the following, drawing upon your reading materials and your personal insight:

  • In your own understanding of the ethics of friendship, to what extent do you personally value the ability to learn about the limitations of your beliefs, the flaws in your character, and the vulnerabilities in your temperament? Do you consider this an obligation of the friend? What is your own understanding of the “ability to live life without certainty, but with an expectant open-heartedness” in terms of friendship and do you concur that it is the ethical approach to cultivating true friendship? If not, based on what you learned in this course, what is?

  • A detailed explanation of the characteristics of the population that the program serves.
  • An analysis of the reasons for implementing the program in this particular locality and population.
  • Suggestions for improving the program in the community. Include your own suggestions as well as suggestions received from your interactions with staff members of the program.

Make sure you: – Have an introduction that grabs the reader′s attention and includes your thesis statement. – Have multiple body paragraphs that begin with a strong topic sentence that gives the main idea of the paragraph and relates to your thesis statement. You should also have enough support in each body paragraph. – Properly integrate quotes or paraphrases from at least 3 credible sources  – Have a conclusion that wraps up your essay and DOES NOT include any new information. – Address at least 1 counterargument. – Use synthesis of 2 sources in your essay.  – Be properly formatted in MLA style Make sure thesis is clear (please highlight the thesis) Check list – 1. Methodology: This section provides the reader with a description of how you carried out your qualitative research project, and the variables you identified and analyzed.  It describes any special considerations and defines any limitations and terms specific to this project, if necessary. This section can be brief or more complicated, depending on the project, written in a single page.

Analysis and Findings: They are not the same as conclusions. In the analysis component of this section you identify how you analyzed the data.  The second part is the finding you got from your analysis of the data. The findings are the facts that you developed, not your interpretation of the facts. That interpretation is conducted in the conclusions and recommendations section of the paper.  Findings will come from the prior research you examined and your analysis of those prior findings to create new findings for your paper. While there may be some facts that are such that they will stand and translate to your paper, the intent is to create new knowledge, so you will normally analyze the data to create your own findings of what facts that data represents.

Conclusions and Recommendations: This is the section where you give your interpretation of the data. Here you tell the reader what the findings mean. Often the conclusions and recommendations sections will mirror the findings in construct as the researcher tells the reader what that researcher sees as the meaning of that data, their conclusions. Then, drawing on those conclusions, the researcher tells the reader what they believe needs to be done to solve/answer the research question. This section may include recognition of any needs for further research and then finishes with a traditional conclusion to the paper as a whole.

Remember, your paper should seek to answer a question that helps to solve the research question and validates or culls your hypothesis

AVIATION SIMULATORS AND THEIR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS

When discussing the subject of aviation related simulators most people think only of pilots being trained to fly. Discuss one other application of aviation simulation you have learned about that does not involve the training of pilots in aircraft. Identify the type of application when titling your discussion post.
