As a family counselor, it is important to understand the role of evidence-based practice in working with families of all types. This week, you will examine specific research that will inform your work as a scholar-practitioner working with various family structures. For this week’s discussion forum, respond to the following: Using research and evidence to inform clinical practice is an ethical, professional, and legal imperative for counselors working with couples and families. In this Discussion, you will consider specific research that might influence your future practice as a scholar-practitioner working with single parent families and blended families. Review this week’s Learning Resources. Be sure to focus on ways to connect research and practice, and consider how counselors might use current research for working with single parent families and blended families. Perform an academic search in the Lamar University Library and select a scholarly article from a peer-reviewed journal that provides empirical support for an issue, intervention, or ethical practice that relates to single parent or blended families. Think about how this article might influence your work as a scholar-practitioner. With these thoughts in mind Post by Day 4 an explanation, based on the current research in the article you selected as well as the information you learned in this course, of how research might inform your practice with single parent and blended families. Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings. Respond by Day 6 to at least three of your colleagues who chose different articles. Expand on your colleague’s posting in one of the following ways: Identify at least two ways that the reading material from Gladding (2014) relates to the article selected by your colleague. Discuss a theory or technique that might be useful for the points made by your colleague. Identify another research article that either supports or refutes your colleague’s findings and discuss it. Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made. Use examples to support your ideas. Be sure to cite your points using the learning resources. You may also use other scholarly literature to support your discussion. Citations and references must be in APA format. See the grading rubric for more information.
