How the Big Bang Theory Portrays and Influences US Audiences
Choose ANY film or television show. You will analyze how it portrays and influences US audiences of varying races, ethnicities, sexualities, and genders.
1) Provide a brief synopsis of the film/television show, i.e., tell the story of the film/television show. This synopsis must be in your own words so do not copy it from other sources, especially Wikipedia or IMDb. One paragraph should be sufficient.
2) Examine how characters of varying races, ethnicities, sexualities, and genders are portrayed. Some questions that might help guide your analysis include: Are characters separated into good and bad categories? If so, then which groups of people belong to which categories? Whose story is being told? Which characters have narrative agency, i.e., the ability to push the story forward?
3) Does the film/television show offer a rich and complex portrayal of these characters? Can you think of ways that the portrayals could be improved?
The entire assignment should total 2-3 pages in essay form with an intro, body, and conclusion.
