Review the Ethical Case on page 100 regarding Stella Liebeck and McDonald’s and answer the following questions:
- Do you think McDonald’s provided proper warnings to its customers about the hot coffee?
- Do you think McDonald’s was, in fact, negligent in this situation?
- Do you think McDonald’s acted ethically in offering Ms. Liebeck an $800 settlement? What if you now know that McDonald’s was informed that the $800 settlement offer was too low before the case went to trial?
- Do you think the award of punitive damages totaling $2.7M (later reduced to $480,000) was justified? Why or why not?
