Statistical Significance and Meaningfulness

For this Discussion, you will explore statistical significance and meaningfulness.

  • Review the Learning Resources related to hypothesis testing, meaningfulness, and statistical significance.
  • Review Magnusson’s web blog found in the Learning Resources to further your visualization and understanding of statistical power and significance testing.
  • Review the American Statistical Association’s press release and consider the misconceptions and misuse of p-values.
  • Consider the scenario:
    • A research paper claims a meaningful contribution to the literature based on finding statistically significant relationships between predictor and response variables. In the footnotes, you see the following statement, “given this research was exploratory in nature, traditional levels of significance to reject the null hypotheses were relaxed to the .10 level.”

*****Post your response to the scenario in which you critically evaluate this footnote. As a reader/reviewer, what response would you provide to the authors about this footnote?

An Anatomy of Substance Dependence

The video presents some facts from the book that show how these two individuals made great contributions to the fields of psychology and surgery, respectively, although they were both, at one time, dependent on cocaine (Bowser, 2011).

Please notice how people can still make very important contributions to society while being substance dependent. Also, notice how in the case of these two individuals, they were not incarcerated, character “assassinated” or demonized by the society. This video is also evidence that history is still repeating itself today with the marketing of new drugs that are supposed to be the next so-called “miracle drug.” Unfortunately, many of these “miracle drugs” are still subsequently discredited because of the harmful effects that they produce.

Depression Antidepressants and Suicide Risk

Depression, Antidepressants, and Suicide Risk

In depression treatment, the risk for suicide increases when patients begin taking antidepressants. The risk appears to be highest in the first month of antidepressant treatment, and appears to be higher when older antidepressants are used, compared to newer medications.

For this Discussion, consider what you have explored in this course so far about pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, dosing, side effects, and the neurotransmitter systems.

Post by Day 4 an explanation for the correlation between drug treatment with antidepressants and suicide risk. Explain how this risk might be ameliorated. Also, be sure to address all antidepressant classes, as well as herbal medications. Finally, cite specific knowledge you have gained in this course so far about pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, dosing, side effects, and the neurotransmitter systems.

What is Cholesterol Descriptive

Hide Assignment Information
Perform a quick Internet search, using Google or another major search engine. Select a search term related to nutrition science (for example, diet, organic, sodium) and see what kind of results you receive. When considering a term to select, think about single words rather than phrases. In some cases your search term may contain two words (for example, unsaturated fat). Avoid phrases like “which diet will help me lose weight the fastest” or “top 10 foods to make me healthy.”

Write a short essay (at least 250 words), using complete paragraphs and appropriate organization. Avoid incomplete sentences or bulleted lists (except for your search term and how many results were obtained). Check your spelling and grammar before submitting. References are required in APA format.

Please provide the following information (listed in bulleted form):

  • your search term
  • how many results you obtained

Then review some of these sources, going no further than three pages into the search result. Critically evaluate the websites you have selected. Find one website that you consider a reliable/credible source and one that you consider false, misleading, or non-factual. Keep in mind that when searching for credible sources you should also determine if your source would be appropriate to use as a scholarly reference (to support your discussions and homework assignments). Please provide the following for BOTH the credible and non-credible choices:

  • the name of the website and the link
  • the author or group providing this information
  • Is this a reliable/credible source? If so, how do you know? OR Is this a non-credible source? If so, how do you know?
  • What was the hardest part about sifting through nutrition information?

Key factors that influence change at Tufts NEMC Case Study

Assessment 3- Case Study Analysis -Part 2

Overview

Complete Part 2 of an in-depth analysis of the case study, “Case Study 5: Ellen Zane—Leading change at Tufts/NEMC.” Your 6–8-page analysis will focus on how the organization navigated the changes made to improve its stability, how those changes impacted the various stakeholders and departments, and the communication practices utilized throughout this change management process.

Note: The assessments in this course build upon the work you have completed in the previous assessments. Therefore, complete the assessments in the order in which they are presented.

In today’s dynamic health care environment, leaders are expected to assume a greater change agent role and will be required to use their positional power and expertise to lead their organizations forward in uncertain waters. An in-depth understanding of organizational structures, power dynamics, resistance to change, and other factors is vital to becoming a master change agent.

This assessment provides an opportunity for you to examine the key factors in an organization that influence the development of an appropriate change strategy and implementation plan.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Analytical Thinking: Develop complex plans or analyses.
    • Evaluate an organization’s use of structures and systems to deal with environmental uncertainty and complexity.
    • Explain how various departments and stakeholders are affected by a proposed change.
  • Competency 3: Innovative Thinking: Apply “tried and true” concepts or trends.
    • Describe the types of power at play within the organization and its potential effects.
    • Outline potential actions designed to prevent or mitigate conflict and resistance to change.
  • Competency 4: Process Management and Organizational Design: Benchmark good processes and practices.
    • Assess the effects of communications on change implementation.
  • Competency 6: Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, in an appropriate form and style, consistent with applicable organizational, professional, and scholarly standards.
    • Write clearly and concisely, using correct grammar and mechanics.
    • Support main points, claims, and conclusions with relevant and credible evidence, correctly formatting citations and references using APA style.

Opioid Crisis

Before we can begin to help Anytown with its opioid crisis, we need to understand how we got to this point as a nation. Once we understand the background and causes, we can then apply that knowledge to Anytown.

In your paper, address the following:
How widespread is this crisis? What are the national statistics on opioid use?
Using research data, determine the states and populations most affected and the reasons for the rise of this crisis.
How does the national data on opioid use compare to data from your own city? If there are any differences, what can they be attributed to?
Based on your understanding thus far, what could have attributed to the rise of opioid addiction in Anytown?
The paper should be 2–3 pages, excluding title and references pages. Use current APA formatting to style your paper and to cite your sources. Integrate a minimum of two scholarly sources into the paragraphs of your paper. Use internal citations pointing to evidence in the literature and supporting your ideas. You will need to include a reference page. See the rubric for specific grading criteria.
