Your first paper will be on communicable disease. Select a disease of your choosing that is classified as a communicable disease.

Provide a complete explanation of:

• etiology and mechanism of disease
• signs and symptoms
• diagnostic methods
• pathology, systems effected
• prognosis, treatments, might we expect a chronic phase?
• public health impact; who does this effect, how, why, where?
• technological and research advancements on the horizon.

Students should rely on academic literature and reputable information sources. Papers should be a minimum of 5 pages of text, double spaced, maximum of 8. Minimum of five sources required. The paper and bibliography should be formatted in APA style. Please provide sub-headings to organize your material. If you are not familiar with APA style, I recommend reviewing directions through the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). They cover all the requirements extensively. We will also go over this briefly in class.

You may use only 1 website as a source. Rely on published literature from academic journals as much as possible. Often, when you find information on a website (like the CDC) they have gathered that from their own published literature. Look for a citation or PDF that you can use as your source, instead of citing the URL.

The study of healthy human nutrition includes topics related to socioeconomics and food security.

2) Thoroughly research a government supplemental food program. You are welcome to use ANY government supplemental nutrition program! It does NOT have to be one like CalFresh that gives money to use at the grocery store. There are dozens of other available federal nutrition programs including: Meals on Wheels, National School Lunch/ Breakfast Program, EFNEP, CACFP, CSFP, WIC, Senior Farmers’ Market, etc. Please be creative.

Culture and Diversity in the Media

Write a 3 pages (double-spaced) paper supported with evidence from the sources provided in Lesson 3 and two advertisements of your choice. Follow the below prewriting steps before writing your essay.

You need to cite 4 sources, including your two ads and at least one source from Lesson 3, in APA format for this assignment.

After working through the materials in Lesson 3, consider whether you think marketing has positive or negative effects on culture(s), and find reasoning from the sources in Lesson 3 in support of your stance.

Find two advertisements that strike you as culturally significant (for example, you can see clearly how they play on cultural values; or they promote a certain message about a culture or multiple cultures). They can be in print magazines, or you can search YouTube.

Determine the primary audience for each ad. Who is likely to be interested in each product? Consider demographics (gender, age, economic status, ethnicity, sexuality) as well as other cultural groups (sports fans, people in the fashion community). Consider how the ads play to the cultural values of these particular groups.

Answer those two question(a) and (b), don’t answer in the one paragraph.

(a) Identify and write out words or phrases in the argument that are loaded language.

(b) Rewrite the word or phrase so that it no longer contains loaded language.

Some members of Congress don’t want to raise the federal debt ceiling. They need to understand what that would mean for the economy. It would mean a bigger economic crisis than we saw in 2008. It would lead the U.S. government to default on its financial obligations—the first default anywhere to be caused purely by insanity.

Analysis of an Age Related Topic

In a Microsoft Word document of 5-6 pages formatted in APA style conduct in-depth analysis of a pertinent topic related to aging. Include the following in your analysis:

• Define the problem.
• Identify the specific population affected.
• Describe cultural implications.
• Describe financial/legal/ethical implications for the population related to the problem.
• Describe 2-3 interventions that can be used to improve the problem.
• Describe resources available to improve the problem.
• Describe costs associated with the interventions identified.
• Discussed sustainability of the interventions.

Support your responses with examples.
