Questions for Final Exam

Social Justice and Family Policy

Due on 4/27 by 8pm

Instructions (Read instructions in full before answering questions):

Below are nine questions that make up the final exam. Only answer five questions of your choosing. Each question is worth four points and requires essay answers. Completed papers are to be uploaded to Canvas in a Microsoft doc or PDF. Papers should be typed in 12 point. Times New Roman or Calibri font only.

You are encouraged to study each of the questions thoroughly before choosing. And are expected to use course readings as well as other materials shared/viewed in class to answer the questions. Be sure to answer all parts of the questions. Points will be deducted for not answering all parts of the question. Lastly, and most importantly. Students are required to comprehensively answer the questions. One short paragraph per answer will not suffice as a fully comprehensive answer. Lengthy submissions are expected. We have read a lot, watched many videos. And had weekly discussion posts. Students should have the ability to write fully comprehensive and thick answers. You will be assessed on your level of critical analysis as well. Do not plagiarize your answers.

Upon writing your answers be sure to clearly outline the questions you’re choosing to answer. ( without rewriting questions in your documents ); if it’s not apparent which question you are answering. (and I have to guess, even if the guessing is easy) I will automatically deduct points. Just providing the appropriate number of the question to which you are answer is good enough.

The Role Of Health Education In Health Promotion.

The Role Of Health Education In Health Promotion.

Topic 5 DQ 1

Health education is a very important part in health promotion. When trying to help a patient with health promotion it is very important to educate them first. If they are not educated on how to be healthy they may not be able to change. First you need to assess their level of health literacy. Assess the family’s level on health literacy because this is a very underused information source (Prom-Wormley, et al., 2021). A lot of people need the education to make the positive change. The nursing process comes in handy when developing health education. First you need to see at what level the patient is on.

The Role Of Health Education In Health Promotion.

They need to be able to understand what you are teaching them. Then you need to diagnose where the patient needs help in with learning. Then you can plan to educate them based on their level. Low-income families have a hard time with finding nutritious food and tend to eat unhealthily. The nurse needs to assess the family, then come up with a list of places that they can get healthy food. The nurse needs to give them the tools to eat healthy, help them. Education of how healthy food is needed and what unhealthy food can do to their body. Education is needed in a lot of different areas.

inspirational posters about decisions

You have probably seen one or more of the many inspirational posters about decisions. A visual such as a forked road or a street sign is typically pictured, along with a quote designed to inspire.

Decisions are often not so easily inspired. Perhaps you discovered this when choosing a specialty within the MSN program. This decision is a critical part of your plan for success. Please write a discussion and respond to this 2 peers’ Discussion Prompts

discussion:

  • Identify two features of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that affect healthcare reimbursement.
  • Which one to you think will have the most impact on providers?
  • Why?

Peer #1

When the Affordable Care Act, ACA, was signed into law in March of 2010, one of the main goals was to reduce healthcare costs. Under the ACA. Payment systems are linked to provider accountability to reduce costs and improve health outcomes. The ACA puts major emphasis on primary care, making primary care physicians the first line of service for everything (Clarke, 2016). If physicians provide 60% of their services in primary care codes. They are eligible for a bonus (Rapfogel et al., 2020).

The Value Based Care the Affordable Care Act & Health Outcomes

The bonus to each individual physician is dependent on the care that is provided and the number of Medicare patients they see (Rapfogel et al., 2020). Another feature of the ACA that affects reimbursement is the Hospital Readmission Reduction Program, HRRP. Under the HRRP, Medicare payments to hospitals are reliant on readmission rates of Medicare patients (Boccuti et al., 2017). If the readmission rate of the hospital is higher than the national average, the payments across all Medicare admissions for the hospital will be reduced (Boccuti et al., 2017).

I think the emphasis that the ACA puts on primary care will affect providers the most because reimbursement is directly linked to the care that they provide. For primary care physicians, this emphasis will affect them positively. The ACA pushes patients to primary care providers as the first line of service. Meaning that these providers will see more patients and will receive greater reimbursement. The ACA also has incentives in place to push aspiring physicians towards primary care. Like scholarship funding and loan forgiveness programs (Clarke, 2016). But the strong emphasis on primary care negatively affects specialists. With more patients seeing primary care providers as the first line, specialists may see a decline in patients. Sievert (2016) found that 41% of physicians took an additional job because their income decreased after the passage of the ACA.

Peer #2

One feature of the ACA is the Pay for Performance (P4P). It is a reimbursement method for providers that give incentive payments to those providers meeting certain predetermined quality and patient satisfaction outcomes (Cleveland et al., 2019). It is an encouragement for hospitals, physicians, and other providers to meet performance standards (Delbanco et al., 2018). While the evidence indicates that pay-for-performance may not be able to alter provider behavior dramatically on its own, it may be effective if incorporated with other incentives (Delbanco et al., 2018). One drawback for providers is that under pay-for-performance, bonuses are paid too long after providers deliver patient care, making it difficult for them to connect rewards to their behavior.

“The ACA benefits low-income families by lowering health costs through Obamacare. The strategy of Obamacare was to provide tax credits for insurance to the middle class. Those whose incomes fall between 100% and 400% of the poverty level. It limits out-of-pocket costs to $8,150 for an individual plan and $16,300 for a family plan in 2020, and $8,550 for an individual plan and $17,100 for a family plan in 2021” (Amadeo 2021). Under the ACA, parents are also allowed to cover their children up to 26 on their plans. This plan has the most effect on providers.

Sexual Assault

Sexual assault includes any type of sexual activity to which an individual does not agree. Because of the effects of some drugs, commonly called date rape drugs, victims may be physically helpless, unable to refuse, or even unable to remember what happened. Jessica, a 16-year-old high school sophomore, expresses concern to the school nurse practitioner that she knows someone who might have had sex “without knowing it.” How can the nurse practitioner answer these common questions?

1. What are date rape drugs and how can a person be unaware that such a drug has been ingested?

2. What can you do to protect yourself?

3. What do you do if you think you have been sexually assaulted?

4. What can you do when someone you care about has been sexually assaulted? 5. What role does a nurse practitioner play in the care of sexually assaulted patients, particularly in the adolescent age group?

Question Description

  • For the final assessment of the course. You will assume the role of an office manager in a family practice office. Your office offers monthly 30-minute educational sessions for patients on a variety of topics. You have been asked to conduct next month’s presentation. This Health Topic Approval assessment will allow you to keep your presentation in mind throughout the remainder of the course as you will use terms from several different assessments in your presentation, and you will be evaluated on accurate medical terminology use and pronunciation. In most cases, your physician group would likely dictate your presentation topic. For the purpose of the final assessment in this course, however. You will have the opportunity to choose a topic that interests you. It does not need to be based on one of the body systems highlighted in the course assessments. For example, you may want to focus your presentation on a digestive system disease. Other examples include: diabetes management, cardiac rehabilitation, diet management, or skin care. These are examples only. Choose the topic of interest to you. Maybe you have a specific condition and would like to learn more about it given all that you have learned about medical terminology throughout this course. Maybe a family member or friend has the condition.

    PREPARATION

To help prepare for this assessment:

    • Please review the requirements for the health topic presentation and the scoring guide criteria presented in Assessment 6 as you consider the topics that interest you most.
