Title: ___Prevention of Elder Abuse in Long Term Care Facilities  Your Learners (Audience):

This ASL Project will be presented to Certified Nurse’s Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses working at St. John’s Nursing Center.

Brief Overview of the Project:

This presentation will define elder abuse, discuss the incidence of elder abuse, provide examples of elder abuse, provide strategies to prevent elder abuse and present information on consequences of elder abuse.

Why the Community (Your Learners) Need this ASL Project:

Elder Abuse prevention is an in-service which is required by the State of Florida for all staff working in the long-term care setting. It is important that health care staff receive refresher in-services on elder abuse throughout the year; especially considering the high stress environment the COVID-19 pandemic has created for residents and staff working in long term care.

ASL Project Objectives: Objectives describe the expected change in your learner’s behavior— knowledge, (cognitive), attitudes, (affective), and psychomotor skills. In some courses, you may use the Course Objectives to formulate your ASL Project Objectives. Please see Attachment 2, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Formulating Teaching Objectives, for an overview on formulating teaching objectives).

6.8 Define and describe the several types of elder abuse.

6.7 Explain the importance of legal and ethical issues in dealing with elderly persons at risk of abuse or who are experiencing abuse.

Changes In Medical Education

Changes In Medical Education

Write a 3–5-page paper that analyzes the changes that have occurred in medical education from the 1800s to today. Compare and contrast the apprenticeship and academic models of medical education and provide examples.

Introduction

Much has changed in American medicine since the establishment of the first medical school in 1765. At the College of Philadelphia. At that time. Physicians had very little professional training. And much of their training was unregulated—as was the treatment they provided to patients. As the medical profession became more established and education became more formal. The rules governing who could practice medicine also became more formal and restricted.

With the formation of the American Medical Association (AMA) in 1876. More medical schools required a four-year degree in order to qualify for medical practice. And the attempt to focus on quality became stronger. However, since many physicians were already from the “old school.” It was difficult to make the necessary changes that might restrict or diminish those educated earlier. Not until outside organizations began to exert pressure to enforce standards in education did improvements in training begin to be seen.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

Your study guide should be in the form of an outline with references, and you should incorporate visual elements such as concept maps, charts, diagrams, images. Color coding, mnemonics, and/or flashcards. Be creative! It should not be in the format of an APA paper. Your guide should be informed by the DSM-5 but also supported by at least three other scholarly resources.

Discharge Plan For Patient

Discharge Plan

You will create a fictitious patient based on your family assessment and use the attached Discharge Plan Template document to create a discharge plan for that patient.  Includes hypertension in the diagonsis. Save the Discharge Plan Template to your files.  You can type right into the document, save it, and submit for grading.  You are to complete all sections of the discharge plan:  assessment, diagnosis/plan, education needs, financial worksheet, and the reflection and conclusion.

And need to be as detailed as possible in filling out all the boxes. The reflection and conclusion section allows you to summarize the patient’s plan of care based on all proceeding information and to make recommendations for the plan of care for the patient.  Reflect on what you learned in this assignment.  What do you think about using this discharge plan, did it help you to consider areas you might not have previously included in a discharge plan?  Please follow the Example Discharge Plan provided for your guidance.

Please follow the Example Discharge Plan provided for your guidance.

Therapy for Patients With Sleep/Wake Disorders

Therapy for Patients With Sleep/Wake Disorders

From negative changes in mood to problems concentrating, sleep/wake disorders can have a tremendous impact on patients’ lives. When patients suffer from these disorders, they often seek medical care with the intent of receiving medications to manage symptoms. However, many of the medications used to treat sleep/wake disorders may be addictive, making thorough patient assessments and close follow-up care essential. To prescribe appropriate therapies with patient safety in mind, you must understand not only the pathophysiology of these disorders but also the pharmacologic agents used to treat them.

This week, as you study therapies for individuals with sleep/wake disorders, you examine the assessment and treatment of patients with these disorders. You also explore ethical and legal implications of these therapies.

Learning Objectives

Students will:· Analyze ;

· Synthesize concepts related to the psychopharmacologic treatment of patients

·  patient factors and history to develop personalized therapy plans for patients with sleep/wake disorders

Renal Trauma

Renal Trauma

it is Friday the 13th and a full moon. You are an LPN that normally works on a medical-surgical unit, but your unit is overstaffed, and the emergency department is short staffed. The nursing supervisor asks for a volunteer to go down to be an extra pair of hands. You volunteer as tribute. When you get to the ER, you are asked to do vitals on a client in the trauma room. The client is a 24-year-old male who was stabbed multiple times to the abdomen.

The wounds appear superficial, and the client has been stable thus far. He will be going to CAT scan as soon as they can fit him in. You approach the client, who appears slightly pale with cool, clammy but is alert and talkative. The vital signs are:

97.3 (PO) P= 115 BP= 95/54 Resp rate= 24 Pain= 6/10. You notice the client voided 100 mL tea-colored urine in his urinal.

One hour later, the client becomes unconscious. His pulse is now 144, and blood pressure is 70/50. The client is taken to the OR and has a nephrectomy for a very damaged and bleeding right kidney.

Answer the following questions:

  1. What were the clues in the data collection that should have alerted you and the staff that there might be a problem? (5-10 sentences)
  2. Why is the urine “tea-colored?” (one sentence)
  3. What are some other interventions that could have been done? (2-5 sentences)
  4. Was the LPN in this scenario working within the scope of practice for an LPN? Why or why not? (5-10 sentences)
  5. How did the environment of care (busy ER) contribute to the client’s deterioration? (5-10 sentences)
