significance of the crime scene

significance of the crime scene

There has been a murder in which it is clear that a person riding a mountain bike on the side of a dirt country road was intentionally struck down by a suspect. The suspect then stepped out of his or her vehicle and shot the biker.

A witness riding an ATV heard the shot and came on the scene just in time to see the suspect kick the victim hard a couple of times, presumably to determine if he or she was dead.

You have executed a warrant for the shoes of the driver/shooter and obtained the shoes worn by the suspect for examination.

· Select a pair of shoes from your personal wardrobe, or borrow a pair from someone else. It is important that you select shoes that are at least 6 months old and are worn often (new shoes will not have much evidence on them. Using a household magnifying glass and a strong white light source—either a desk lamp or flashlight—closely examine the pair of shoes you selected.

· Identify 3 or 4 items from the soles of the shoes, and explain in a 3–5-page paper how you conducted your examination, the type of items you found, their possible significance to the crime scene, and how you would recover and package the evidence you found.

Note: The following are just suggestions and are not mandatory for your paper grade. You may find this an instructive exercise.

You may have access to an ultraviolet light source like the ones used for identifying water marks on money and checks, commonly found at cashiers’ stations. Wear a pair of yellow glasses used as sporting glasses for skiing and shooting. This is just an extra suggestion and is not mandatory for the assignment.

You may also photograph items you have found and attach the photos to the paper if you care to. If you decide to photograph the items, do it on a piece of white bond paper—the photos will turn out better.

Domestic Terrorist Group

Select one of the following four domestic terrorist groups: KKK, Black Panthers, Weathermen, and Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional. Analyze the group based on your readings this week. If necessary, conduct research to analyze the group. You can use the South University Online Library databases to conduct your research.

After analyzing the group, answer the following questions:

  • Who organized the group?
  • What is the group’s purpose or objective?
  • What methods of attacks has the group conducted?
  • Who or what was the group’s target? Explain using examples.
  • Which are the two key attacks the group conducted?
  • Does the group still exist? Why or why not?
  • If the group no longer exists, how was it defeated by criminal justice officials? If the group still exists, what measures should criminal justice officials be taking to defeat the group?

OVERCROWDING IN MALE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

2 OVERCROWDING IN MALE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

Outline: Overcrowding in male correctional facilities

I. Introduction

The state of affairs in male correctional facilities is sad as the inmates are overcrowded

and have to make use of the limited resources that are in the correctional facilities.

Thesis Statement

the congestion in the male correctional facilities has resulted in the deteriorating of the

living conditions in the facility which has threatened the wellbeing of the inmates and the

officers working in the correctional facilities.

II. Background

The rate of imprisonment in America has been increasing in the last four decades and this

has led to the correctional facilities taking in more inmates than their capacity. Men between

the age of 18- 40 constitute a large proportion of the inmates.

III. Body

1. Main point: When the inmates are overcrowded in correctional facilities they have no

access to proper medical services and sanitation, the inmates are exposed to more

diseases (Zubi, 2017).

a) Supporting Point 1: the overcrowding of correctional facilities has made the ratio of

the nurses to the inmates small; nurses have to attend to a huge number of inmates

and thus the quality of medical care is not guaranteed.

3 OVERCROWDING IN MALE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

b) Supporting point 2: since the correctional facilities are crowded resources like water

are not adequate. The inmates also cannot access clean water and that exposes them

to infections.

c) Additionally, the correctional facilities are not cleaned thoroughly encouraging the

breeding ground of bacteria and disease-causing organisms such as mosquitoes.

2. Mainpoint: the inmates have to stay in very bad conditions and lack access to the basic

needs which are the right of every citizen.

a) Supporting point 1: According to research done on male correctional facilities, studies

show that there are inmates who are forced to sleep down because they lack beds

b) Supporting point 2: the inmates lack privacy because they have to share a room with

so many people because of the rate at which the facilities get inmates.

c) Therefore there is a need for the prisons to be decongested to at least allow inmates to

have better conditions and also give them privacy.

3. Main point: The mental wellbeing of the inmates and the staff in correctional facilities

has been threatened by overcrowding in the facilities.

a) Supporting point 1: The overcrowding of prisons has been known to insight bullying. And violence in some of the inmates leading them to be stressed and even depressed

(Pollunina et al., 2017).

b) Supporting point 2: The staff have problems controlling the masses in prison. And thus

makes them experience work-related stress that could lead to the emergence of mental

conditions.

c) Consequently, there have been cases of suicide that have been noticed in the inmates. And also the staff working in the facilities.

4 OVERCROWDING IN MALE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

4. Main point: Correctional staff in the facilities are forced to use force to bring order in the

facilities.

a) Supporting point 1: The masses in the male correctional facilities have resulted in a

lot of fights. And chaos in the correctional facilities. The staff is forced to use

excessive force to stop them.

b) Supporting point 2: The use of excessive force is because of the lack of cooperation

from the inmates. And the fear that inmates might gang up against the staff.

c) It is said that the use of excessive power of officers results in the injury of the

inmates.

5. Main point: the overcrowded male correctional facilities have resulted in sexual

harassment and abuse of some inmates.

a) Supporting point 1: sexual harassment comes from both fellow inmates and the staff.

The staff feels that they have more authority over the inmates. And engage in sexual

activities with them without their consent.

b) Supporting point 2: studies show that over 100,000 male inmates are violated

sexually each year (Hodge, 2017). This is an alarming number that needs to be

addressed.

long-term secure facilities, and residential treatment centers

long-term secure facilities, and residential treatment centers

In this unit, we covered the various institutions which hold juveniles such as detention centers, long-term secure facilities, and residential treatment centers. Currently, the majority of juveniles are held in detention centers. Do you think we should continue this practice? Why, or why not? If your opinion is that we should move juveniles to another type of facility, identify which type of facility and why. Additionally, provide your thoughts on housing juveniles in adult prisons and jails. Are there offenses in which juveniles should be housed in an adult prison; if yes, identify those offenses.

Your journal entry must be at least 200 words in length

issues experienced by adults and juveniles in the correctional system.

In this course, we examined issues experienced by adults and juveniles in the correctional system.

For this assignment, you will put yourself in the shoes of a faculty member in a correctional course. You must teach your undergraduate college students about corrections to include the issues experienced by adults and juveniles. To teach this material, you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation with the completed presentation containing at least 13 slides, not including the title and reference slides.

You need to include the following in your presentation:

  1. The first section of your exam should focus on corrections in general and contain:
    1. a general description of the American correctional system,
    2. a description of at least two myths of corrections, and
    3. identification and explanation of at least two events that led to mass incarceration.
  2. The second section should focus on adults in corrections and contain:
    1. a description of one of the challenges of adults in correctional facilities,
    2. a discussion of at least one potential obstacle that contributes to the challenge discussed in section 2a, and
    3. an explanation of a practice or policy that could help alleviate this challenge. In your explanation, be sure to address how the practice or policy would help to alleviate the challenge,
  3. The third section of your exam should focus on juveniles in corrections and contain:
    1. an explanation of one of the challenges of juveniles in correctional facilities,
    2. a discussion of at least one potential obstacle that contributes to the challenge discussed in section 3a, and
    3. an explanation of a practice or policy that could help alleviate this challenge. In your explanation, be sure to address how the practice or policy would help to alleviate the challenge.

For all sections of the PowerPoint, you are encouraged to use research; hence, your completed assignment requires the use of at least two sources,

the exclusionary rule and Fruits of the Poisonous Tree doctrine

Exclusionary Rule

Discuss the exclusionary rule and Fruits of the Poisonous Tree doctrine. Illustrate the foundations of each and critically analyze the following:

· What do the exclusionary rule and fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine seek to accomplish? Are they effective in doing so?

· Describe the exceptions to the exclusionary rule, including attenuation, independent source, inevitable discovery, and good faith.

· What possible positive or negative effects can come from either of these?

This paper should meet the following requirements:

· 3 – 4 pages in length (not including title or reference pages), double spaced, and include a minimum of two, peer-reviewed, and scholarly journal articles

qualitative or quantitative methodology

Instructions

This week, you will focus on a topic of your choice and include a problem statement. Theory or conceptual framework. And the annotated bibliography from your previous work. This is a draft to get feedback from your professor to complete the Signature Assignment.

The problem statement is between 250-300 words. It describes the gap in the literature or the problem found in the research. It is something that has not been solved. A problem statement is used to describe what the researcher intends to solve. This also includes what is known about the problem or what should be known about the problem. Identify who is impacted if the problem is not solved. Refer back to week 5. If needed to parallel the outline of the problem statement. Include at least one citation from your literature that supports the evidence of a problem.

The purpose statement is written to align with the problem statement. Also, in this section. You will identify the type of study such as qualitative or quantitative methodology. (Since you have not yet studied the methodology. It is in another research block course. You may use your best idea here.) Include a sentence of who the population and number of participants may be for this study. Finally, in one or two paragraphs. Describe how you will maintain the confidentiality of the participants.

Assignment Instructions:

Include the following items in your draft:

  1. Write a problem statement with no more than 250 words.
  2. Write a purpose statement using the directions below.
  3. Include two or three paragraphs about a theory or conceptual framework.

 qualitative or quantitative methodology

From the dissertation template. Use the following points to write a purpose statement: Begin with a succinct purpose statement that identifies the study method, design, and overarching goal: “The purpose of this [identify research methodology] [identify research design] study is to. [Identify the goal of the dissertation that directly reflects and encompasses the research questions that will follow].”

  • Indicate how the study is a logical. Explicit research response to the stated problem and the research questions that will follow.
  • Continue with a brief and clear step-by-step overview of how the study will be (proposal) or was (manuscript) conducted.
