Clinical Standards and Innovations Committee

A Clinical Standards and Innovations Committee has been created to look at leveraging technology to expand care for remote, community health populations. The Chief Nursing Officer has assigned you to this committee to examine strategies for best practice related to use of telehealth to support rural settings and expand care to all community populations. As the lead RN on the committee you have been tasked with leading the telehealth initiative and have one month to research, analyze, and propose the best evidence based strategy to implement telehealth services through telecommunications-ready tools. You will present your findings to the Chief Nursing Office and CEO of the facility in a succinct one-page summary leveraging your committee’s recommendation. They have asked for the summary to include the following components:

  • Discuss the defining characteristics of telehealth
  • Include your own definition of telehealth
  • How does telehealth impact the nursing role
  • Examine how telehealth is currently integrated in healthcare
  • Describe the evidence based practice that supports the use of telehealth in rural and community healthcare settings.
  • Provide a detailed description of your recommended evidence based strategy to implement telehealth
  • Provide rationale supporting your strategy
  • Summary to include current evidence from the literature.

What Makes A Good Leader

Evaluate personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to your career advancement.

Then, discuss the top three traits you feel makes a good nurse leader. Support your statements with examples from your practice experience and scholarly sources.

Leadership

Leadership is a complex process that requires leaders to critically appraise the circumstances. In which they find themselves to best determine how to lead and influence those around them. There are multiple tactics a leader can employ in any given circumstance to influence a situation or their followers. Compare two leaders you have dealt with in the past.  What different tactics did these leaders employ to influence situations or people?  Which tactics were successful? Which tactics were not successful? As a leader, how can you critically appraise situations. To make sure you select appropriate tactics for influencing a given situation?

A leader has access to plethora of tactics to influence its followers and to be used in numerous situations. Cohen, (2000) has recognized eight crucial tactics that leaders might use in circumstances to sway a group of followers irrespective of leadership styles. The eight essential leadership tactics are: direction, persuasion, negotiation, involvement, indirection, enlistment, redirection, and reputation (Cohen, 2000).

different careers.

I have had many supervisors in my different careers.  The two most recent leaders that I have worked with have used different tactics to influence situations or people. My favorite leader of the two made the call for change and explained why if there were concerns, he will say let’s try and if it doesn’t work, we will change it. It usually worked on his favor he was fun and made work fun. When things will not go well, he always had the right plan and even when his plans didn’t work, he had the right words to lift our spirits.

The other leader that I respected had a more direct approached, he will make changes and when met resistance it was his way or the highway, but he will work shoulder to shoulder with his team and he was well respected.  During my time working with him things went smooth and you could always be assured that everything was done fairly.

Both tactics where successful but the fact that the first leader was always willing to hear you out caused staff to really like him and work for him.

A leader, should always take in consideration the two sides, gather as much information as possible, and make a balance decision.

The nurse-patient relationship is important in the delivery of quality healthcare services. The targeted population. In this case, is the elderly patients who are admitted to the healthcare facility. The accessible population refers to the population to which the researchers utilize to apply their conclusion. In this case, the accessible population is the general patient nursing. The comparison is made in determining how the application of the Jean Watson’s of caring to care. And nurses’ patients is leading to the rise in the nurse-patient relationship. And improvement in the patient outcomes as compared to the general population (Gonzalo, 2021).

The differences between accessible and the target population

The accessible population is considered to be the study population whereas the target population is the theoretical population. The target population is the individuals who the researchers are aiming to study while on the other hand. The accessible population is the individuals who the researcher can study. The accessible population is representing the whole set of cases that the researcher is wishing to study. While the target population is representing the part of the accessible population that can be feasibly be made part of the study. The target population is serving as the primary environment for the hypothesis made by the researcher in a general term (Gonzalo, 2021). The accessible population is the population that is derived from the target population. To help in the successful performance of the research within a specific term.

For the case scenario in the capstone project. The elderly patients admitted to the healthcare facility are the theoretical population. That forms the primary environment for the researcher’s hypothesis. General patient nursing is the accessible population who the researcher is focused on the study (Gonzalo, 2021).

Privacy breaches

Privacy breaches are serious offenses that negatively affect the trust between nurses and patients. To maintain this trust, nurses must maintain the privacy and security of patient information. Read the scenarios below related to the protection of health information.

Scenario 1

A nurse posted the following comment on her social media page: “Can this shift be any longer? It started out with a waiting room full of nagging people that don’t seem to know what “emergency” means. Then I had to deal with the drama of trying to transfer a 400 lbs. (no joke) intubated COPD patient down the hall to the ICU, those ICU nurses are such divas and I wasn’t in the mood for their whining. Someone help!

  • Describe the privacy and security issues related to this social media posting.

Scenario 2

A nurse educator is preparing a presentation poster for an infectious disease conference. She includes pictures of varying stages of a client’s lesions in the poster.

  • Describe the privacy and security issues related to the inclusion of patient information on the poster.

Scenario 3

  • Marcus was admitted to the hospital from a long-term care facility. He was diagnosed with dehydration and delirium. He is expected to return to the facility. The charge nurse at the facility calls for an update regarding his status.
  • Describe the privacy and security issues related to sharing this information with the long-term care facility.
