Developmental Theorist Research Assignment

Throughout your nursing training and career, you will care for patients and family members of all ages. It is important to have an understanding of where they are from both developmental and a cognitive perspective. This will enhance your interactions and decrease frustration on both sides between you and the patient/client.

Many believe that they are just memorizing this for a LPN-NCLEX exam but I assure you that this is knowledge that you will use every shift.

Think about the following examples for a moment:

  • Administering an immunization to a 1 month old versus a 10 year old
  • Preparing a 4 year old for an appendectomy versus an 18 year old
  • Discussing life goals with a 5 year old versus a 20 year old versus a 70 year old

Using the same approach with each patient would not be successful, you must stop and think about where the individual is at and meet them on that same level.

You will be responsible for researching a theorist,,provided is your assigned Theorist. The essay must provide an overview of the theory and your role as the Nurse and how it relates to Growth and Development of the patient/client.

Format of paper- This paper is to be APA format , WORD document (sample APA style paper in resource area or online library area) You will need to submit two pages of content, double spaced, 12 size font in times new roman, citations and references. You must have 2 to 3 peer reviewed articles from the online library NOT GOOGLE. Use the online LIBRARY LIRN for reputable articles. A cover page, body and separate reference page. Review the rubric from the syllabus and below regarding assignment expectations and grading % allocations. Each student will have an assigned Theorist, this is not a team assignment!

  • The writing style is appropriate in places, but elsewhere language is vague and imprecise.
  • Numerous spelling, grammatical, or other errors.

60-69%

  • Assignment is very unfocused.
  • The organization has multiple problems.
  • Shows very little original thought.
  • Answers several questions incompletely, and references and examples are not adequate to support the points being made. Writing style interferes with the development and clarity of the main points.

  • Assignment meets none or very few of the assignment’s guidelines.
