Activity 9: Students with disabilities are given little opportunity to express their preferences, make their own choices, or take responsibility for their actions. This teaches some of them to become dependent on the adults in their lives, and it develops learned helplessness in others. What is learned helplessness? How can teachers help students with disabilities overcome this dependence on others and this feeling of helplessness? (FESE 6.2c)
