his graded online discussion presents you with the following real-life legal problem:

Dawn is a driver for Fast As We Can Delivery. She is a longtime employee and has the use of her delivery vehicle to get her to and from work. One evening after she completed her shift, Dawn is asked by her supervisor, Ian Smart, to drop off a special package at the DNA Laboratories, a research institute funded by the state. Rather than driving straight to DNA after work, Dawn stops at a supermarket to pick up a few things she needs at home. After leaving the supermarket and on the way to DNA, Dawn’s vehicle is involved in an accident with Mr. Dewey Cheatum. Mr. Cheatum seeks to bring an action against Dawn, DNA Laboratories, and Fast As We Can Delivery. Please discuss the potential liability in this case and the potential defenses that might be used by all the parties.

Consider the following in developing your answer:

Managing Risk Through Offender Classification

Discussion Board #3 – Maximum Security Inmate Classification

No unread replies.No replies.

In Chapter 10 – Managing Risk Through Offender Classification, we learned how classification and risk assessment are used to improve the effectiveness of correctional agencies.

Risk Management and the Classification of Prison Inmates

Initial Classification Process:  Until the 1970s, most states used the clinical classification process, to decide what type of prison housing, work assignment, and treatment programs would be best for the inmate. Currently, most states use an objective classification system—an actuarial risk assessment—to determine an inmate’s initial assignment to a prison. During the 1970s, correctional agencies attempted to identify factors in an inmate’s background and prison behavior that are predictive of violence or escape. Objective classification systems were developed that could assign weighted scores to various background, sentence, and behavioral factors.

changes in program needs

Reclassification of Inmates: After initial classification, prison staff regularly review inmates’ progress and move them to a different security level when their needs warrant a change.  The reclassification review is used to modify the original classification and possibly reassign the inmate to a different prison. Reclassification has three basic purposes:

  1. to consider changes in program needs, mental health, or medical condition;
  2. as an incentive for good behavior by dropping the security level of inmates who conform and follow prison rules; and
  3. to identify the need to increase inmates security level because of misconduct and resultant disciplinary action.

In this Discussion Board, let’s discuss whether or not you think that inmates assigned to maximum security prisons have no further use for classification by administrators.  As a reminder, maximum security prisons are grades of high security level used by prison systems which offer an enhanced level of security to prevent prisoners from escaping and from doing harm to other inmates or guards.  Do you agree or disagree that inmates have no further use for classification by prison officials?  Give reasons for your decision.

Personal Experiences with Healthcare Settings

Personal Experiences with Healthcare Settings

One of cultural diversity objectives of this course is to document and evaluate your perspectives about different forms of diversity including gender, and your experiences as a consequence of your gender, other aspects of diversity and identity. The personal reflection and analysis paper allows you to describe and analyze an autobiographical incident and how it relates to issues of diversity and the objectives of the course.

An autobiographical incident is a well-told story about a specific occurrence in your life that is of personal significance which you can relate to your experience of an aspect of diversity, including gender diversity (for example an experience with relationships, depression, addiction or an eating disorder). Choose an autobiographical incident that has profoundly impacted you which relates to an aspect of diversity.

When writing this paper, reflect on how your gender identity and any other aspect of diversity has influenced your health in a way that is different from those with other gender identities or diversity factors. This paper is confidential and will only be read by the professor, although topics may be shared in aggregate or anonymously. The issues raised in these papers help to frame the reality of what is going on in the health of women today and your perspectives about issues affecting you, your families and peers. Use your natural and honest voice to discuss the event(s) or (issue(s) and its significance in your life.

In the second part of the paper you will be asked to address several questions analyzing some of the major objectives of this course from a cultural diversity standpoint and relating them to your autobiographical incident

  1. Describe a personal incident. Describe dialogue, people, places, and times in appropriate detail in retelling the incident. Describe your thoughts about the incident when it occurred.
    • What is the personal significance of the incident? What impact has this incident had on your life?
    • How do you think and feel about the incident now? Did it have a positive or negative influence on your life? Is this issue still affecting you now?
  2. In describing your autobiographical experience, reflect on how your own identity, whether it be race, class, gender, might have contributed in some way to the experience itself or to its resolution. Analyze the ways in which cultural diversity is socially and historically constructed. Describe how your gender identity and other aspects of diversity have influenced this incident and it’s impact on your mental and physical health in a way that may different from those with other gender identities or other aspects of diversity.
    • Reflect on how you are personally situated within hierarchies such as race, class, and gender. (Learning Outcome #4)
    • Analyze the ways in which cultural diversity is socially and historically constructed. (Learning Outcome #3)
    • Would the outcome of this incident be different if your race, class or gender were different? How does that make you feel?
    • Would you have a different perspective about this incident if you were raised in a different culture or if your experience of factors which contribute to diversity were different? Would your experiences and views be the same if your gender or gender identity were different?
  3. What reactions have you had to the readings/discussions/films in class that relate or could relate to this personal incident and/or your experience of diversity? Even if there is not a specific exact match to a topic we discussed in class, please explain how some of the barriers, discrimination and/or impacts you faced could allow you to relate to something we did talk about on a certain level even if the details or specifics of the condition or circumstances are different.
  4. Explore the ethical constraints and personal responsibilities that citizens have in addressing issues related to diversity as it relates to your experience of this autobiographic incident.
  1. This paper should be three double spaced pages, 12pt Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins and clearly organized with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. Use appropriate APA-format citations and a reference list using at least 4 professional, recent references (peer-reviewed journals, professional organizations like WHO, CDC, NIH) to back-up your facts and points.

Diabetes Hospitalizations in Minnesota in Last Five to Ten Years

Diabetes Hospitalizations in Minnesota in Last Five to Ten Years

  • INTRODUCTION
A key part of your proposal will be to identify benchmarks and trends for the topic you have chosen for your documentation review. Benchmarks can come from national or state quality standards or trends. If your proposal is approved, you as the office manager will want to try to answer this question: How does our office data compare to national or state trends? You need to identify your benchmarks before you can collect and then compare the data. You decide what your benchmarks are. They could be based on national averages, state averages, or quality standards. For example, here is one quality standard:
  • All patients with chronic, stable coronary artery disease are on an antiplatelet therapy or have supporting documentation as to why they cannot take an antiplatelet therapy. For instance, they may have an allergy.Another question to consider when establishing benchmarks is this: Are you comparing apples to apples or apples to oranges? In addition, if you are retrieving information from a national database or data from an HIE, how do you know your office data is comparable to the information you are retrieving? Consult your suggested resources for answers to these questions. For this second assessment, you are to:
    • Analyze statistical trends and assess quality measures relevant to your proposal.
    • Assess the compatibility of data drawn from multiple sources.
    • Determine the effects of health information quality on an HIE.

This assessment is completed in three steps:

  •  One – Preparation: Locate data related to quality measures or trends relevant to your topic from specific websites.
  •  Two – Data Collection: Create a data collection tracking spreadsheet and dashboard.
  •  Three – Data Compatibility: Write a short paper on data compatibility and quality.
  • data standardization

INSTRUCTIONS
Step One: Preparation
Locate data related to quality measures relevant to your topic from one or more of these websites:

Step Two: Data Collection
Using the Data Collection Spreadsheet Guide [XLSX] as an example, create a spreadsheet containing three tabs: Dashboard Tracking, Data Collection, and Trending. On the first tab, Dashboard Tracking, draw from the information you gathered in Step One as part of your preparation for this assessment:

  • Identify the specific benchmark data you will compare with your office data. Remember it is up to you to establish your benchmarks.
  • Organize or create a spreadsheet to display the totals, percentages, averages, and so on of your office data and of the national or state data you will be using for comparison. Note: Your Office Data column will be blank because you are not collecting any office data. This is only a proposal to do an information review of the quality of care provided by the physician group. Data does, however, need to appear in the Benchmark (national/state) data column.
  • Include at least one comparison graph of your choice on this tab.
  • On the second tab, Data Collection, draw from the information you gathered in Step One as part of your preparation for this assessment:
    • Create a form you will use to collect specific data from the patients’ records.
    • Include a row for each patient.
    • Provide a column for each data collection point (quality measure) you will be comparing.
    • data standardization

Note: The information on this page is totaled, averaged, et cetera, with the results linked to the first tab.To create your third tab, Trends, you will need to do some additional research. Identify national benchmarks for the condition you have chosen that could be compared to your office data. For example, if the trend in your office is that you are seeing more patients with asthma, but the national trend is decreasing, you have discovered a discrepancy that needs to be investigated. To perform your analysis:

  • Visit one or more of the following websites containing national data:
  • Locate and analyze statistical data relevant to the selected condition.
    • Examine trends:
      • What other meaningful trends exist? For example, consider the number of new cases, increases or decreases of cases within a specific age range or location, et cetera.
      • How do the national and state trends compare?
      • Is the national trend increasing or decreasing?
      • What is the percentage of cases who expire from the disease?
  • Identify the trending of one statistical result relating to the condition you selected over the last 5–10 years.
  • Create a line graph on the third tab of your spreadsheet, Trends, that illustrates the national and/or state trending of the disease you selected over the past 5–10 years.
  • Note: Remember you have not collected your office data yet for comparison purposes. You could add that data at a later time

the compatibility of the data:

Step 3: Data Compatibility

Assess the compatibility of the data:

How can you ensure data from multiple sources is compatible?

How do you know the data you are using for comparison is compatible with your office data?

What challenges are associated with data standardization? We do not want to compare apples with oranges. You want to be sure data from multiple sources:

Represents the same condition.

Uses similar statistical analysis.

And so on

Effects of Health Information Quality on the HIE Explain

the difference between an HIE and a national database.

what problems can develop if facilities submit incomplete or inaccurate information to an HIE.

problems can develop if facilities submit incomplete or inaccurate information to a national database.

how incomplete or inaccurate data may affect your proposal.

management team of Efficient Network HMO

C

CASE STUDY

The senior management team of Efficient Network HMO is evaluating the year-end data related to emergency room (ER) expenses. One physician group within the network had ER expenses that were three times. The rate of any other group within the network. Senior management has studied group operations and theorizes that three factors are influencing the high rate of expense. The group does not utilize triage nurses, does not have after-hours urgent care services, and has limited office hours from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. An answering service, not staffed by nurses, relays calls during the remainder of the hours.

The physician group is willing to work on the problem but is asking for detailed, comparative information from the HMO’s senior management team before it implements any changes. How would you, as the clinical data specialist for the HMO, answer the following questions?

  1. What information would be useful to the senior management of the HMO and the physician practice in evaluating the ER expenses?
  2. What data sources would you use to obtain data?
  3. How could the reports be structured to provide meaningful information?

Public Hospitals & Its Service to General Public

Public Hospitals & Its Service to General Public

For follow up posts, you want to add something new to what was already posted (find a case study on the topic and summarize the findings, find a research study and share the statistical findings with the class, provide a real world example of the topic to the class, etc). The post should be at least 250 words.

What is a public hospital? Discuss the statement, “Not all public hospitals serve the general public.” According to our textbook, in the healthcare world the word “private” means that it is owned by the government (Shi, pg. 192). Since the word private means owned by the government, a private hospital is a hospital owned by the government. These type of governments can include federal, state, or local. In the United States, one-fourth of the hospitals are considered public (Shi, pg. 192). Just because a hospital is considered public, does not mean that it serves the public. Depending on what government the hospital is owned by, it can serve different groups of people. A example of this is federal hospitals.

general public in counties and cities

Federal hospitals do not serve the public, they see special groups such as Native Americans, military personnel and veterans (Shi, pg. 192). The State government sees patients that have mental issues or tuberculosis. Local governments operate hospitals that do serve the general public in counties and cities (Shi, pg 192). they consider type of hospitals are also considered community hospitals. Most hospitals that are considered public are small in size. The bigger public hospitals are affiliated with medical schools or they help with training of physicians. Medicare and Medicaid patients usually go to these hospitals (Fraze, 2008).

Tax dollars are often used because many cases are charity cases and helps with the financial loss. Public hospitals are slowly declining in numbers (Fraze, 2008). Most of the public hospitals that are open are in small towns or rural areas so these areas can have a hospital.
