1.  What is the direct evidence in support of the theory of natural selection? Include at least four examples.

2.  Humans shape their environment in ways that other organisms cannot. Are humans subject to the same pressures of natural selection as other organisms? Why?

3.  Provide an example of convergent and divergent evolution, adaptive radiation, and co-evolution. Then, choose one of the examples you provided. What implications might this example have for future humans?

4.  How does a new species evolve from a pre-existing species? Include a brief analysis of the factors affecting speciation.

Health Care Organizations in U.S.

Health Care Organizations in U.S.

Conduct a research on one of the top fifteen health care organizations in the U.S.

Your research should include the following questions:

  • How will you find listings of the top fifteen health care systems?
  • What are the various components of the selected health care system? How does it rank in terms of reduced mortality and infection rates?
  • What are the services provided by the healthcare delivery system?
  • What are the current trends contributing to the high ranking and the future path of this health care organization?
  • How does the organization manage and distribute resources for improved patient care?

In a Microsoft Word document, create a 2- to 3-page report, on the basis of your research. Provide at least two resources or journal articles referring to the selected organization.

Support your responses with examples.

Cite any sources in APA format.

NUTRITION AND METABOLISM

Respond to the following 8 questions in 6-12 sentences each:

1. (8-10 sentences total) discuss the functions of essential fatty acids in the body, food sources in which they are found, and the problem with the fatty acid content of the typical American diet.

2. (10-12 sentences total): Describe the similarities and differences among the various lipoproteins, and why it is desirable to have a specific LDL:HDL ratio in the blood for optimal health.

3. (8-10 sentences): Discuss the steps of atherosclerosis and explain how it may lead to heart attack or stroke

Discuss the 4 levels of protein structure, including a description of essential and non essential amino acids.

4. (6-8 sentences) Explain how at least 4 B vitamins are involved in the citric acid cycle.

5. (6-8 Sentences) Describe the steps of gluconeogenesis from amino acids.

6. (6-8 sentences) Explain the role that 3 minerals play in energy metabolism

7. (6-8 sentences) Describe the process of protein synthesis in the cell.

8:

Part 1-Find a recent peer reviewed article on a protein or amino acid of interest related to energy metabolism. Describe the study design and results

Part 2-Explain further research that needs to be done in order to learn more about this protein/amino acid’s functions.

THE FUTURE OF BIOTECH

One biomanufacturing-related example which we have looked after reading those articles which you believe will be significantly impacted by new advances in biotechnology as it applies to biomanufacturing.  This may reflect a difference related to a new capability (representing new possibilities),  improved cost, efficiency or safety in future development or commercialization.

How energy flow through an ecosystem

We all live in an ecosystem; a community of both living organisms and non-living elements interacting with each other. Humans have commonality with the other organisms in an ecosystem as we are composed of cells, cycle nutrients, get rid of waste and reproduce. But does the human body have similarities with an overall ecosystem?

Respond to the five topics below for this unit’s Discussion. Then, throughout the week, review your classmates’ posts and comment as appropriate on at least two other posts per the Discussion Guidelines.

  1. How does energy flow through an ecosystem? What is a producer, a consumer (primary and secondary) and a decomposer?
  2. How is the human body similar to an ecosystem? Provide a description of two ways in which the human body is similar to an ecosystem.
  3. Select two of the organ systems in the human body and describe their function. What role(s) do they play in maintaining the environment of the human body?
  4. Humans are consumers in the ecosystem. As part of our evolution, we have developed and urbanized many parts of the world affecting the habitat of other species. Select a city or town in the United States that has become urbanized and postulate or provide a supported example of how another species have adapted to the urban environment.
  5. Do you think that humans have a responsibility to protect the habitats of other species? What efforts do you recommend?

weight loss diet

Choose a popular weight loss diet that you are interested in evaluating.

Research the diet and learn about the philosophy and nutritional requirements. Analyze the nutritional value of the diet and write a review. Your review should include:

  • A description of each macromolecule
  • An analysis of the protein, carbohydrate, and fat content of the diet
  • An explanation of how the diet leads to weight loss
  • An evaluation of the diet’s effect on the body
  • A comprehensive review of the diet including your recommendation

Your two- to three-page evaluation should take the form of a well-researched and well-sourced essay in current APA Style. Be sure to include a reference list in current APA Style of all of the sources used. Your review should be guided by the research, but it should be your own work.

factors that affect the length of incubation period of diseases

What is incubation period of a disease? What are the factors that affect the length of incubation period of diseases?

Directions

Chapter 14 deals with this topic. Some diseases show signs and symptoms of the diseases quickly than th eother diseases. It is important to know how that happens.

Abstract: Septic arthritis is an inflammatory joint disease that is induced by pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus. Infection of the joint triggers an acute inflammatory response directed by inflammatory mediators including microbial danger signals and cytokines and is accompanied by an influx of leukocytes. The recruitment of these inflammatory cells depends on gradients of chemoattractants including formylated peptides from the infectious agent or dying cells, host-derived leukotrienes, complement proteins and chemokines. Neutrophils are of major importance and play a dual role in the pathogenesis of septic arthritis. On the one hand, these leukocytes are indispensable in the first-line defense to kill invading pathogens in the early stage of disease. However, on the other hand, neutrophils act as mediators of tissue destruction. Since the elimination of inflammatory neutrophils from the site of inflammation is a prerequisite for resolution of the acute inflammatory response, the prolonged stay of these leukocytes at the inflammatory site can lead to irreversible damage to the infected joint, which is known as an important complication in septic arthritis patients. Thus, timely reduction of the recruitment of inflammatory neutrophils to infected joints may be an efficient therapy to reduce tissue damage in septic arthritis.

AGING ON THE HUMAN BODY

Write a well-researched two- to four-page paper on the effects of aging on the human body.

Analyze the effect of aging on cells, explain the phenomenon of apoptosis and its relationship to aging, and provide a detailed explanation of how each of the body systems is affected by the aging process.

Be sure to:

  • Analyze the effect of aging on cells
  • Define apoptosis
  • Describe the role of apoptosis in normal cells and cancer cells
  • Evaluate the effect of aging on each of the body systems covered in this course

This paper should follow current APA Style and cite at least three peer-reviewed and relevant sources. Be sure to include a reference list in current APA Style of all the sources used.
