Family Based Childhood Obesity Prevention Interventions

Quantitative Research

Write a fully developed and detailed APA essay addressing each of the following points/questions. There is no required word count; be sure to completely answer all the questions for each question in detail. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least one (1) source using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page are required. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

Conduct a literature search to select a quantitative research study related to the problem child obesity and conduct an initial critical appraisal. Respond to the overview questions for the critical appraisal of quantitative studies, including:

  • Is this quantitative research report a case study, case control study, cohort study, randomized control trial or systematic review?
  • Where does the study fall in the hierarchy of evidence in terms of reliability and risk of bias?
  • Why was the study done? (Define the problem and purpose.)
  • Were the steps of the study clearly identified?
  • What was the sample size?
  • Are the measurements of major variables reliable and valid? Explain.
  • How were the data analyzed?
  • Were there any untoward events during the conduct of the study?
  • How do the results fit with previous research in the area? (This may be reflected in the literature review.)
  • What does this research mean to clinical practice?

Additionally, be sure to include the rapid appraisal questions for the specific research design of the quantitative study that you have chosen. These can be found in Chapter 5 of the textbook (Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt, 2015).

This critical appraisal should be written in complete sentences (not just a numbered list) using APA format.

Provide a reference for the article according to APA format and a copy of the article.

Cultural Diversity and Caregiving

 Cultural Diversity and Caregiving

To what extent does the baby boom generation [those who were born 1946-1964] alter family structure in the U.S.? What is the prospect of family support for this generation when they grow old in the next several decades? Will the current pattern of social support change? How can the US learn from the way things are done in other cultures? Do we rely too much on outside help?

I want you to think seriously about your family. Are your parents living alone? Do you expect them to do so until they die? What about the culture of the family collective? It benefits everyone. Your parents can watch your kids while you work and then, you and your now older kids can watch over your parents.

RE: Discussion – Week 3

COLLAPSE

A collection of data can be beneficial to any clinical system. Collecting more data brings more knowledge, greater insights, smarter ideas, and ample opportunities for organizations to learn from their own data (McGongile & Mastrian, 2017). There is one potential benefit for using big data and that is the more data you have, the more knowledge you can receive. By having large amounts of data at your fingertips can decrease the potential need for additional information.

The use of big data can also bring risk to a clinical setting. As Thew states in the article, synthesizing the data is usually done manually which can become very time consuming and lead to a laborious process (Thew, 2016). Manual collection of any data can lead to misinterpretations which then can lead to misdiagnosis and wrong treatments.

After researching ways to mitigate potential challenges on the use of big data, an article by M. Adibuzzaman, P. DeLaurentis, J. Hill, and B. Benneyworth state the need for additional time stamped data (Adibuzzaman et al., 2017). This would include time stamps on all healthcare interventions such as every medication given, every doctor visit, and ever assessment. To be able to identify more clearly within a time frame can be beneficial in the patients’ healthcare timeline. They suggest the need for larger cohort of institutions to share complete, precise, and time stamped data better be able to share patients information and research.

RE: Discussion – Week 3

COLLAPSE

Week3DiscussionPostSmithPNURS5051-2

This week we learn how critical nursing is to the advance of technology in healthcare. Nursing is the largest profession in healthcare. Nurses are with the patients 24 hours a day; we are the ‘eyes and ears’ for the physicians and the patients. The nurse needs to be competent in using technology to its greatest extent. The nurse informaticist helps the floor nurses communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team (Public Health Informatics Institute [PHII], n.d.). In this discussion, I will be writing about how our nurse informaticist works with our multidisciplinary team and one way to improve these interactions. I will also discuss the advance of nurse informatics specialists and the impact on nursing professional interactions.

I work in a small, community hospital, and we have an informatics team of one. Jodi works between nursing and information technology (IT). Jodi works with an interdisciplinary team to ensure the electronic health record uses nurses’ language and applies to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) meaningful use terms. Meaningful use should advance the clinical process, capture and share data with the patients and other healthcare providers-while following privacy rules, and improve patient outcomes (Glassman, 2017). I believe one way to enhance informatics at my hospital would be for Jodi to be more visible to the staff. Leadership is a social process; leaders and followers need to interact to have a successful relationship (Yoder-Wise, 2019). She is always a phone call away if we have a problem. However, that seems to be the only time we see her.

With the advances in healthcare technology, nurses must remain up to date on education. We must be competent to train our patients on how to take charge of their healthcare. The advance of the electronic health record (EHR), brings increased patient access to their medical record with mobile applications (Glassman, 2017). The call lights in our hospital go straight to the phones the nurse and aides are carrying. Our facility has also utilized radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags that show the position of the nurses on the floor (Glassman, 2017). These devices also turn the call lights off when the nurse walks into the room. If the nurse pushes the call light in the room, it will call all the nurses and aides on the floor for staff assistance. Bed alerts also ring to all the staffs’ phones. These work to our advantage at times.  However, when we first went to the phones, management fielded many patient complaints about nurses on their cell phones while in their room.

As knowledge workers, nurses take in data and share information with the interdisciplinary team (Mcgonigle & Mastrian, 2018). We must always communicate with our patients on the tools we are using. NI is a fast-growing field and will continue to advance in healthcare. Nurses have to continue their education to make NI work better for all of nursing.

Health Factors in the Population

Health Factors in the Population

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:

You are going to write a 10 page, 12 point type, double-spaced, paper based on an interview of an older person. The citation list is not included in the 10 pages. You will discuss the interview answers and relate them back to the material you learned in the course. In your analysis, you will use citations in the text to explain your discussion. You will also include a bibliography at the end of the paper – you can use a standard professional format for your bibliography like MLA or APA. You may use a website like easybib.com to organize your references and to put them into the correct format You need to have at least 10 outside references.

STEPS:

1) Find an older person to interview. You can use our suggested questions below, or you can come up with your own questions as long as they relate to topics we have covered in the class (disease, retirement, etc.)

2) You should weave your newfound knowledge about aging to help to explain the responses of the person you interview. Use of citations is essential to improve your grade – it is the professional way of doing things. BE SURE AND CITE THE WORK in the text and provide a BIBLIOGRAPHY. Use a standard professional format for your bibliography – like APA or MLA. We have a lot of these to read, so take pity on us and make it a fun read.

3) You can use the following questions to guide your interview with an older person from your life, but be creative in your interview – just support it with a knowledgeable interpretation and supportive citations.

4) Here are some examples of questions to ask:

– How has your lifestyle changed over your adult life? For example, your eating habits, exercise, working, and leisure.

– How has your health changed? Do you have chronic health problems like arthritis or high blood pressure? Do you have to take medicine and is that difficult to manage? Do you go to the doctor more often?

-(At this point you can kind of connect the answers to question 1 to the outcomes from question 2. For example, I eat In-N-out burger all the time and I have high blood pressure or vascular disease.)

-How has your mental ability changed? Do you think you have gotten smarter with age? How? How is your memory? Your ability to deal with everyday problems? problem solving in general?

-What is your current marital status? Do you have children or grandchildren? How old are they? How often do you see them? –

-What kinds of things do you do for your family? Are you the caregiver for your grandchildren or are your kids and grandchildren the caregiver for you? What kinds of things do they do for you? If you were to become disabled, would someone in your family be able to help you? Who do you think would be most involved? – This question is all about support systems that live in the family of the interviewee.

-Did you invest in your retirement years? How? Do you worry about financing your life as you become older? Do you worry about your estate being enough? About your estate being devoured by a health crisis and follow-up needs for assisted living?

-Do you feel that Social Security and Medicare are enough support to help older people manage financially? Should the government do more or do less to support older people? Should the government provide long-term care to older people?

-What’s the best/worst thing about being your age now?

You need to probe your interviewee to get detail on their answers so you can create a story, so ask questions like “How do you feel about these changes? Why do you feel this way?” for everything you find out. You are an investigative reporter and you will not have a very compelling story if you do not ask good questions!

http://www.glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/science/virtual_labs/ES15/ES15.html

For the Week 6 lab, you will need to channel your inner weatherperson. In this lab, you will be attempting to predict the weather in 3 cities based on the regional weather pattern of the previous 3 days. Follow the directions as provided on the website; you may choose any region. In your introduction, you will be discussing what atmospheric conditions define the weather and why being able to predict the weather is important. The M&M will require a little research as you will need to discuss the pieces of equipment used to collect the atmospheric data (wind speed, temperature, etc.) that are found at each weather station. Your R&C will be a comparison of your predicted Day 4 weather conditions and the actual conditions. To facilitate this comparison, you will include in your R&C a screenshot of your predicted weather and a screenshot of the “checked” weather. If there are any differences between your predicted and actual weather, discuss how the data may have been misinterpreted.

While this lab is located in the climatology section, we will be studying dendrochronology and the ability to determine historical climates through the study of tree ring patterns. Follow the directions as provided on the website; you will be completing the Level 1 (Moisture) and Level 2 (Temperature) exercises. In your introduction, you will discuss the climatic factors that affect tree ring growth and why this data might be important. The M&M will simply explain the observation of the tree rings and how a historic model is constructed. Your R&C will include screenshots of your final tree cross-sections from Levels 1 and 2. You will see as you build your tree rings that a score is tallied in the upper righthand corner (+100 for correct matches and -30 for incorrect matches), if you choose an incorrect option, make note of the mistake and how the error was corrected. Explain in your R&C why the interpretation of tree rings might be very difficult.

Patient Centered Health Interventions and Timelines

Patient Centered Health Interventions and Timelines

  • For this assessment, you will evaluate the preliminary care coordination plan you developed in Assessment 1 using best practices found in the literature.

NOTE: You are required to complete this assessment after Assessment 1 is successfully completed.

Care coordination is the process of providing a smooth and seamless transition of care as part of the health continuum. Nurses must be aware of community resources, ethical considerations, policy issues, cultural norms, safety, and the physiological needs of patients. Nurses play a key role in providing the necessary knowledge and communication to ensure seamless transitions of care. They draw upon evidence-based practices to promote health and disease prevention to create a safe environment conducive to improving and maintaining the health of individuals, families, or aggregates within a community. When provided with a plan and the resources to achieve and maintain optimal health, patients benefit from a safe environment conducive to healing and a better quality of life.

Process Safety Management Requirements Common Oxidizers

Process Safety Management Requirements Common Oxidizers

OSHA issued the Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals Standard (PSM) (29 CFR 1910.119) which contains requirements for the safe management of chemicals for companies that exceed OSHA’s threshold quantities for highly hazardous substances. This standard requires the establishment of a management program that includes conducting process hazard analyses, establishing detailed operating procedures, and includes other important requirements to mitigate the possibility of a serious, chemical related incident occurring at the facility.

For this assignment, suppose you are a safety manager at a chemical manufacturing facility that manufactures concentrated nitric acid. You have heard that employees who load nitric acid into rail tank cars have been checking the pre-inspection checklist from the rail shipping office instead of actually inspecting the vehicles with the checklist in hand as required by the operating procedure. This has not been the first time the shipping crew has been lax about process safety related work rules. Based on this scenario, please compose a research paper which includes the following information:

  • Identify the chemical properties, uses, and primary hazards associated with common oxidizers including concentrated nitric acid.
  • Identify important occupational exposure limits (OELs) associated with at least 3 common oxidizers.
  • Identify PSM requirements that would be useful for preventing or minimizing the consequences of a significant oxidizer related incident.
  • Using the OSHA Standard and your own experience, justify and validate the importance of the PSM standard to your facility (if it stores and processes highly hazardous materials) or a facility that may impact your community or a near-by community. Examples might include a water treatment facility that utilizes liquefied chlorine gas, a coal fired power plant that utilizes liquefied chlorine gas for water treatment, a food processing plant with a large ammonia refrigeration system, a fertilizer manufacturing or storage facility, a chemical manufacturing facility, etc..
