Stream Morphology Laboratory Report

 Stream Morphology Laboratory Report

Prior to beginning work on this lab, read the Stream Morphology investigation manual. This lab enables you to construct a physical scale model of a stream system to help you understand how streams and rivers shape the landscape and how human actions can affect river ecosystems. This lab is done with materials that you will need to supply; the list of items you will need to obtain is in the Stream Morphology investigation manual.

The Process

Take the required photos and complete all parts of the lab assignment (calculations, data tables, etc.). Use the Lab Worksheet as a resource to complete the Lab Report Template. Transfer any answers and visual elements from the Lab Worksheet into the Lab Report Template. You will submit the Lab Report Template through Waypoint in the classroom.

The Assignment

Make sure to complete all of the following items before submission:

Soil Fertility for Sustainable Agricultural Resources

soil fertility is the word I choice.

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapters 3 and 4 in your course textbook. The purpose of this assignment is twofold: first, to enable you to explore a term (concept, technique, place, etc.) related to this week’s theme of sustaining our agricultural resources; second, to provide your second contribution to a collective project, the Class Sustainable Living Guide. Your work this week, and in the weeks that follow, will be gathered (along with that of your peers) into a master document you will receive a few days after the end of the course. The document will provide everyone with a variety of ideas for how we can all live more sustainably in our homes and communities.

To complete this assignment,

  • Select a term from the list of choices in the Week 2 – Term Selection Table located in the course. Type your name in the table, next to the word that you would like to choose.
    • Do not select a term that a classmate has already chosen; only one student per term. If you choose a term that is hyperlinked to a source, that term is one that is not mentioned in our textbook. Instead of being required to use the text as your third source for completing the assignment, you will be expected to use the hyperlinked source provided for you.
  • Download the Week 2 Assignment Template available in the course and replace the guiding text with your own words based upon your online research.
    • Please do not include a cover page. All references, however, should be cited in your work and listed at the end, following APA Style expectations.

In the template, you will

  • Define the term thoroughly, in your own words.
  • Explain the importance of the term using evidence.
  • Discuss how the term affects living things and the physical world.
  • Suggest two specific actions that can be taken to promote environmental sustainability in relation to the term.
  • Explain exactly how those actions will aid in safeguarding our environment in relation to your chosen term.
  • Provide detailed examples to support your ideas.

Mapping Concept of Solar System

Mapping Concept of Solar System

We’re going to do a concept map of the solar system here’s how you do that.

1. First, get an 11×17 piece of paper. If you don’t have a piece that big you can make one by taping two 8.5×11 (that’s normal size) pieces together.

2. Draw the Sun, the 8 planets and the asteroid belt as much to scale as possible (in terms of size and distance from the Sun) on the piece of paper.

Note: you CANNOT draw the solar system to scale and still expect it to be visible. But as you draw think about which planets are larger, which are smaller, which are tightly spaced and which are far from each other. And draw so that those relationships are visible.

3. Now labeling, label everything you can possibly think of about each planet. We want this concept map to include everything any reasonable person could want to know about the solar system. Some things to think about.

  • Name
  • Period of rotation
  • Period of revolution
  • Jovian or terrestrial?
  • Distance from the sun
  • Atmosphere?
  • Size
  • Moons?
  • Rings?

4. Anything interesting about that particular planet

  • Large volcanoes
  • Big red spots
  • Orbits on its side
  • Runaway greenhouse atmosphere

I’m not saying label it with these things, I’m saying label it with every possible thing you can think of. This should help you see and make sense of patterns in the solar system. Feel free to be creative, get some colored pencils and do it in color if you want. Draw little spaceships and aliens if you want. Have all the fun you want with it. The important thing is to get the information on there so you’ve worked with it, you can see it and your brain can assimilate it. (resistance is futile)

Once you’ve finished your concept map photograph it (Note: it might take more than one picture to do it justice) and submit your photos to the drop box. THEN hang the concept map on your wall in all its glory for everyone to see and admire and for you to study from.

Agriculture & Water Availability Impacts Discussion

Agriculture & Water Availability Impacts Discussion

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read the Properties of Soil: Agricultural and Water Availability Impacts investigation manual. This lab enables you to analyze the natural porosity and particle size of soil samples along with the chemical composition and profile of different soil types.

  • Before you begin the assignment, read the Properties of Soil: Agricultural and Water Availability Impacts manual; you may also wish to review SCI207 – The Scientific Methodpresentation video.
  • Complete all activities using the materials that you supply. Photograph each activity following these instructions:
    • When taking lab photos, you need to include in each image a strip of paper with your name and the date clearly written on it.

Review of Washtenaw County RFP Essay

Review of Washtenaw County RFP Essay

instructions

You are an engineer in a design, build, and operate construction firm. The firm has received four requests for proposals (RFPs) and can only respond to one of these. You have been asked to review the RFP from Washentaw County, Michigan, and write up a three-page executive summary for the marketing team. After reading all of the executive summaries, the marketing team will make a decision about which, if any, of the RFPs to respond to.

The RFP from Washentaw County is located here: https://www.washtenaw.org/DocumentCenter/View/2386/RFP-6857-PDF

Your executive summary should include the following items:

  • an introduction that includes a detailed overview of the project scope;
  • identification of the required information to be included into the company response to the RFP;
  • your concerns about any of the obligations in the RFP;
  • how any negotiations with Washentaw County could affect the decision (i.e.,What collaborative methods of problem solving could be used to solve the marketing team’s problem of choosing an RPF? How could these methods be applied to this situation?); and
  • your justified recommendation to respond or to pass on this business opportunity. This should include a description of the leadership and management principles that factored into your decision.

Also, as stated in the RFP, the criteria for making a decision will depend on the following three areas: price, collection and methodology, and responsiveness to the bid. While you cannot address the price issue, you can cover in your recommendation discussion the collection methodology and the level of detail that you would recommend when responding to the bid.

Your response should be at least three pages in length. At a minimum, you should use information from your textbook to support your answer, but other academic resources may be used as well. Any resources used should by cited in accordance with APA guidelines. Format your response in APA style to include a title page, running head, and reference page.
